Question Help me choose the most value

Hey guys!

I'm looking to upgrade from my current pc that is quite old (talking i5-4670 and GTX 760) and from my research the i5-12400F seemed like a solid cpu for a mid range budget PC so I'd like to make the build around it. I'm planning to game at 1080p 144Hz, atm I mostly play e-sport titles but I'd still like the capability to play more demanding games at like medium settings (e.g. Battlefield 2042).

The things I have right now that I wonder if they can or should be reused:
Storage: KINGSTON SUV500/480GB (from 2019)
Hitachi HUA722010CLA330/1TB (from 2014)
PSU: Corsair CX600/600W (from 2014)

The rough build I have put together rn:
CPU: i5-12400F
CPU cooler: Vetroo V5
Motherboard: MSI Pro B660M-A (no need for wifi)
Memory: Cheapest DDR4-3200 CL16 (16G)
Storage: Might buy another 480GB SSD
Case: Deepcool MATREXX 40
GPU: ?
PSU: ?

So my main question is what would be a good value budget GPU for this build?

From the reading I did it seemed that AMD is more value for low res gaming so is AMD the way to go for this setup? Obviously the cheaper the better but I think my ceiling is around 250€ (270$) but maybe a cheaper GPU is totally fine.

And also can I reuse my old PSU for this or do I need a more powerful one?

i browsed a few of your local vendors (those with english available at their website)
the best i could come up with is something like this :
cpu: i5 12400f

unfortunately i could not find any better power supply under 100 euro (power supply selection is very limited) ,
also the card with better cooler would be nice but this is the only rx 6600 that fits the budget .
this card is extremely power efficient so you should be fine even with your old power supply if you want to save some money
(although CX is not the best power supply and it is also fairly old so i would advice you to get a new one)
if you can put together some extra cash you can get this graphics card:
sapphire pulse rx 6650xt

I appreciate you taking the time to browse local vendors but I actually have a guy who told me he can buy pc parts from amazon tax free so it seems there is no need to shop locally. I've done some more digging and put together this (most of the choices from PC Builder). The PSU is missing at the moment, I agree the PSU is too old and needs an upgrade. With these prices it seems the 6650 you put at the end would fit the budget but is it the best option around the same price?

There would be 80$ left for the PSU which actually fits the budget perfectly and if the tax free scheme works it it would be even under budget which is great because I plan on getting a 144Hz monitor also so it would go towards the monitor. What PSU would round this up nicely?

I'm also looking to build a pc within a similar budget and honestly, i feel that the 6600 is kinda already lacking too far behind. If the heaviest workload in your pc usage is gaming, i would maybe swap the i5 for a i3-12100F (here it is almost twice as cheaper) and get a 3060 ti or a 6700xt (this one is a better fit with i5 or Ryzen 5 5600/5600x, sure, but the i3 is a little beast and you can upgrade at any time for cheap, unlike the GPU). I'd maybe get a 6650xt at a bare minimum.

Since you're not bound to shop locally and you're already planning to spend on an air cooler, i'd get a tray version (just a cpu, no cooler) of whichever CPU you decide to get, they can be significantly cheaper.

I'd use a 650-750W psu with anything above the RX 6600, people say anything Tier B from the cultist PSU list (maybe even tier C) would do.

Oh, and also, my plan is to use a ssd for the system, and run the games from a HDD, since the main difference (at least for now) is in the loading times, and not in performance during gaming. So i'd skip spending on another SSD.

after converting it to euro it is precisely 900 (give or take 5 bucks) and all available at amazon website .
there are not any good quality power supplies currently available (in stock) at amazon for 70-90 bucks

if it fits the budget 6650xt is definitely better option (it is 15-20% faster compared to rx 6600)
if you can affort to spend a little extra on the video card you can upgrade to 6700xt which gives you another 10-20% (depending on resolution and title) over 6650xt

Your plan is reasonable.
The 12400 will come with a perfectly adequate cooler. I would try that first.

The upper limit of what you can consider will be gated by your psu.
Since your GTX760 is running ok for now, with the presumed two 6 pin connectors, there should be plenty of available upgrades.
I usually recommend that if the current gpu is nvidia that an upgrade should stick with nvidia.
There is a learning curve in working with a different driver environment.
(ditto with amd upgrades)

I might think GTX3050 would be good; 3060 if the price is right.


If/when you upgrade your psu, look for 850w or more.
The 12400 can drive a very strong graphics card.
My key to quality is to look at the warranty.
If you get 7 to 10 years warranty, the psu quality will be good.
Look for Seasonic focus or Corsair rm for starters.
DO NOT buy a cheap psu.
