My GTX 1060 recently broke, and I'm looking to get a new GPU which hopefully does around the same performance (or maybe better)
My CPU is an i3 9100 (which I will be upgrading to an i5 9400 soon) and my budget is around 250USD
My choices so far are:
$150 - RX570 8GB (I know its worse than the 1060 but I could save money this way)
$190 - RX580 8GB
$200 - RX5500xt 4GB
$180 - GTX1560 4GB (Super?)
$250 - GTX1660 6/8GB (I sorta wanna avoid this cus its expensive where I am, but maybe..?)

What I'm leaning towards atm ---> RX5500xt {Why does everyone hate this card???}
Alternatively, is there a better card that I haven't listed yet?
Thanks a heap

Solution
What country are you shopping in?

As long as you're staying within the 4GB VRAM capacity, the RX5500XT performs similarly to the RX590 and GTX1660, which is.....15%-20% faster than your GTX1060 (if you have the 6GB variant). In general though, the 1650 Super typically sits just under the 5500XT performance while the 1660 typically sits just above, so in terms of pricing that you've given, they more-or less make sense.

I think I'd have a hard time recommending the RX570 and RX580 at those prices.

Solution
I guess I haven't heard it's unpopular.
Aside from the 4GB VRAM situation and that it's actually an x8 card (PCIe 4.0 mobos would make this equivalent to a PCIe 3.0 x16). That x8 vs x16 situation only really presents itself as a problem in gaming once the VRAM capacity has been exceeded, which you generally want to avoid anyway, on any GPU.

It appears in benchmarks that the 4GB Nvidia cards are more....efficient at VRAM usage (this has been the case for multiple recent generations of AMD vs Nvidia), but that all comes out in the wash at the end. The performance is what it is from the benchmarks, and there ARE 8GB 5500XTs if you feel strongly against the 4GB limitation (although that will cost slightly extra).

Other than that.... I mean, the RX570 is/was a KING in the price/performance competition, and really the RX580 was good in this regard also. So maybe people scoff at the 5500XT not providing ENOUGH of a performance benefit to match the price premium. However, the RX570 is also very poor if you look at perfomance/watt, whereas the Navi cards are very good in comparison.

Also were your prices being converted to USD? For example:

I ended up grabbing the RX 580 8GB :p There is a "30 day change your mind policy" so I guess I could get something else, but according to what you along with a couple of others said, the RX 580 seems pretty solid so...
