I would like to know your opinions about buying a GPU. I can buy gtx 460 hawk talon attack or sapphire 6870. gtx 460 costa about 40-50$ less in my country.I'm leaning toward the gtx 460 because is cheaper, quieter and OC very nice and i like nvidia more than amd :D .
so what do you guys think? 6870 or gtx 460 hawk t.a? is there a big difference?

resolution is 1920x1080.

I think you meant to say the 460 costs $40-50 less. They are targeting difference price points and performance levels- not hugely different but different nonetheless. Like Malmental said, the 6870 performs better but the 460 is still a great card. They both off "Great 1920x1200 Performance" (reference Tom's Best Graphics Cards For The Money: January 2011 article) so you won't get vastly different performance with either. If you like Green Team (nothing wrong with that) then grab a 460 (I'm not familiar with that particular SKU but I'm assuming it's an OC'ed version) and enjoy!

Note: GTX 560 should be arriving soon which should drive down prices on 460's. That being said there is always something just around the corner.

yes gtx 460 hawk costs 40-50$ less.

maybe i will wait for gtx 560 and gtx 460 price drop

I'd say the Radeon HD 5850 competes with the 6870 for the same price point as the GTX 460. If you're not gonna do 3D gaming, then the 5850 is the best of the three for performance/price.

But between the two you named...I'd go with the GTX 460.

performance wise the HD6870 wins hands down with the GTX460 being more efficient.
That link is comparing stock clocked cards. The MSI GTX460 Hawk Talon Attack is factory overclocked with components and PCB design geared towards overclocking. A highly customized Talon Attack with a factory overclock is a much more even match with a regular 6870.

Then there's that whole image quality optimization issue where the 6870 had it's performance boosted in benchmarks by 10% at the expense of image quality.

Then go with the GTX 460. Two of these cards also scales awesome, if you plan on doing SLI in the future.

so image quality is better on gtx 460?
gtx 460 seems like a better choise then. what graphic card will be better for future(2-3 years) 6870 or gtx 460 ?

When I think about the future, I think about DirectX 11 and specifically tesselation, which is a technology that increases the realism in gaming. The GTX460 (~$180) and GTX560 (~$280) will do a much better job than the 6870.

so gtx 460/470 are better than 6850/6870 in tessellation which means that 400 series are better for future.
