Wrong get the amd athlon 64 3200+ it rocks!!!

If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.

I would look at <A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=186763#186763" target="_new">this</A> before you decide.

But what if he wants to multi media encode and multi task at the same time also plans to use hyperthreaded proven and designed apps.

Stick a top graphics card in that P4 rig and you'll play any game just fine. Stick some nice memory in the Newcastle rig and you can encode anything fast. You probably won't notice the difference between the two CPU's in everyday use. Six of one, a half dozen of the other. I would have to give a slight edge to the A64 in all around performance.

I would go with 939. Amd don't phase out their chipsets every 6 months like intel does. So you'll have more longlevity.

I have intel, but they lagging behind amd in speed esspecially in games. So next system i'm building is the 939.

Socket 939 is here to stay a long time, you can easely upgrade in the future.
Also i think when Windows64 bit comes out in a few months you get a speed boost, you can not install windows64 on a P4(not yet)

Toms Hardware Site is a joke !
Looks like intel spent more on bribing reviewers to cover up it aint that great than they did in R&D, you know what im talking about Tom !
