help me decide between amp64 and p4

i am currently deciding between p4 3ghz northwood and amd athlon 64 3200+ newcastle processors. i am hard core gamer but study architecture as well. i want to play new games and also run acad, 3ds max and photoshop like apps. from what i read amd is better with games and p4 with 3d and acad apps. i cant decide because games and architecture are both my big hobbies. please help.

amd athlon xp 2000+
gigabite mobo
512 mb ram
gigabite radeon 9800 pro

A64: probably the best choice; if you can afford a s939 system, it's the greatest thing money will buy right now. Nothing reaches s939 currently; s754 is very good too. A64 rules in games.

P4C/E: Good for video encoding, but try and avoid the 1MB cache chips; they're prescotts and are unnecessarily hotter. These chips are no slouches either, but they're somewhat behind A64 chips and are right now less sophisticated. They're quite above AXP processors, though.

I don't really understand that recommendation either, AMD's advantages far outweigh their short commings against the P4
