Help me decide which Build I should go for

Hello again.

ONLY two weeks left for buying the components for the new PC and I still havent decided on some important things. But lets take things from the start.

I want to build a -quite good- desktop which i aim to be quite good at games (although i dont want only to play games if you know what i mean, since I also want to enjoy high speed multiple tasking, watching movies etc etc) but I really believe that if you manage to build a good gaming PC, all other tasks can be easily performed by it.

Anyway. After a lot of research and opinions, I ended up with the two followin solutions.

Their difference is the CPU and GPU actually. I first came up with the i7 solution, but now i am thinking that I dont really need the power of an i7, do I ? I thought that it would be stupid to spend so much money on a processor and much less on a GPU -considering that my main aim is to make a good gaming PC. And I say that, cause what I learned from web searching, is that most games are limited by the GPU of the system and not vise versa.. So thats how I ended up with the second solution.

However, also let me tell you that I am considering buying and Ultra HD monitor (although not sure about that either). In that case, will the solution of the i7 be better, keeping in mind that in 2-3 years I will buy a good GPU and hopefully expect to play in 4k (since the i7 wont probably have a hard time handling a good GPU that comes out in 3 years).

I would go for the best build now which is the i5. What you might or might not do in 2-3 years can easily change based on your needs or new hardware available at that time, you cant really plan for it.

The i7 build is very unbalanced, top end CPU with a mid range gpu. The i5 build is a high end gpu and CPU and nicely balanced

For gaming, and for everything pretty much the i5-6600k + better GPU is better. just better.

Well thas what i am thinking right now, true, if I look only for NOW, the i5 with a better GPU is definately a better choice. But if u also consider that I am planning on buying an Ultra HD monitor now, i think thats its better to take a better CPU now so that i can stil ldo everying in full hd now (gtx960 strix aint bad at all) and hopefully the i7 CPU will be able to handle a high end GPU coming out in 3 years or so, so that i can move to 4k gaming at that time.
Otherwise, if i go with the i5 build, i think there is no point in buying an Ultra HD monitor now, since i will need a much more genreal upgrade in some years to go to 4k gaming

u wont think that i5 is enough after seeing the Recommended system requirements for assassin's creed unity, syndicate, fallout 4, etc. They all need an i7.

and yea they also need a gpu capable of handeling it, i would suggest no less than 980ti or fury x if u r planning 4k with those games.
at 1080p, u should b good to go with an gtx 970 for upcoming hardware hungry games.

Ofc it is man. there is no doupt about it. but still, i will be limited to 1k gaming and in order to move to 4k gaming in 2-3 years that hopefully that will be possible, i will have to buy : new GPU, new CPU, new monitor (since i really dont think it would be wise to buy an ultra hd monitor now, if i go with the i5 build)

man i know already that no matter which solution i pick now, i wont be able to handle 4k gaming. thats for sure. but i believe that if i go for the i7 now and buy a high end GPU in 2-3 years, first of all the CPU will be able to handle such and a card and ofcousre i hope i ll be able to go 4k gaming then

and i forgot to mention. what u mean these games need an i7? i ve read from various sources on line that there are very few games right now that use 2 cores, let alone 4. and the limit is almost always the GPU

and we can always oc the cpus...
And 2 cores? that was true until an year or half, since then more and more games are coming which can utilise 4 cores. And directx 12, did u 4got bout that? It also designed to use multiple cores much more efficiently than that of dx 11 does.
Here, U r thinking bout 4k and that too after 2 to 3 years later, dx 12 will b d api all games wil b using then, u wil definately need 4 cores, dnt u think so...

I know man, i know. but i am not betwwen an i3 and i7 .i am between a high end i5 and i7. from my little knowledge on that staff (its the first time i dig into it so much) the diffence between those two is the max clock speed -which can come almost to the same level with OC-, 2mn cashe more on i7 and hyperthreading. I mean both models have 4 cores, right (regarding what u say about games using more cores now).

Since i lack aaaaall the knowledge needed to take such decisions, thats why i am asking you people 😛 for some help!! 😛

So let me rephrase the question:
Shall i go fo :r i7, gtx960 strix, ultra hd monitor and upgrade my gpu in 3 years or so?
Or : i5, gtx970 and then what monitor in that case? I think about full hd cause i am afraid that the i5 wont be able to handle playing 4k games. But then, are we sure that i7 will??

i am so confused...

man i dont really understand what u are trying to say, and u probably did not understand my question.
My max budget for now is 1200 Euros that i must pay for the components (CPU, GPU, etc) and I will buy the monitor by paying in installments (thats why I can consider buying a 4k monitor).

From what u are saying, i can figure that in order to play a game at 4k i need to spend 1400Euro for a coupled GPU or something. Well, i dont think i ll ever do that. I like gaming, but on a budget. When i said that I will buy a new GPU in 3 yeras I meant spending max 500 for it. Not 1400.

So the question is - i know u ll probably say noone knows but i dont really believe that- will I be able to play 4k without spending crazy amount of money ?

Cause if the answer to that is definatelyy no, then there is no reason at all to get an o7 6700k with an Ultra Hd monitor, and i should definately go for a full hd monitor, with i5 6600k as CPU and gtx 970 as GPU.

At least thats what i think....

you can definately go 4k in next 3 years jst by adding 2nd gpu and that too at less than 370 euros,I jst took a look @ pcpartpicker uk, i found out that 4core i7-6700k is costlier than jst a little old 6core i7-5820k... and that 6core i7 can definately handle 2 gpus at 4k and besides an x99 mobo leaves u so many upgrade path if u ever need 1 aftr next 5 to 6 years... so using a 6core for less money than using a newer 4core cpu definately makes sence...
so i put up a build taking ur current budget of 1200euros and future upgrades with less than 370euros for a 2nd gpu in consideration...

a little over ur budget of 1200 bt totaly worth it, wid dis u can get 4k experiace @ ur budget, n 390x performs nearly same as a 980, for less money n offrs 8gb vram which wil benifit at 4k rez.
u can add 2nd 390x in future fr jst 350 euros, so i already put a decent 1000w psu...
u can again save money on the windows 10 home 64 bit by using torrents if u prefer that.. (although i wont recommend using torrent if u want to recieve regular and safe updates)...

No one seems to be listening to the pianist...

He's on a tight budget and therefor cannot be persuaded to make a very expensive upgrade to 4k of wich still needs to be proven its better at all compared to 1080p (I see a lot of comparisons where they make objects seem blurry, but when you look online for 1080p pictures they look a lot less blurry then the given examples).

You forgot to mention to the pianist that 4k requires an expensive 4k monitor. Because there's no point going to 4k if your not gona take a 27 or 32" monitor wich all cost around 400-800 euro's (600+ if you want a decent one).

The pianist, as you know GPU's lack the horsepower for 4k, only rich people will go for 2-3-4 sli configs and I'm sure your the kind of guy that wants 1 payable card to do the job.

So I advice you go for a 27" 2k monitor 144Hz IPS (max 4ms lag) with a GTX980 because there's no way you'll get a descent sollution to 4k within 365 days. The next line of GPU's will be able to run 4k yes, but still at an average pace and they'll not be worth the money (1000$ per card). So its best to just go with 2k until they upgrade their monitors... by the time you get tired of your system you'll prolly find 8k available (its going that fast!).
