ok before everyone says "don't do it!" like in every other thread....
I'm trying to reusing a hdd from an acer computer (AX3-100-EF10 desktop) that I've cannibalized for a new build.
New build:
gigabyte F2A88XM-DS2 mobo
A10-5700 APU
seagate 160GB HDD (from aspire one za3, working fine)
Temporarily using 32 bit win7 os until i can afford win10 64 bit (win7 un-update-able, ummm don't ask.... lets just say it's a "small 7" 😛 )
8 GB ram (also from acer desktop)
did i forget somthing?
The HDD i want to use is a 1 TB HDD from said acer desktop
seagate barracuda 7200 rpm sata (firmware? cc44?)
neither the lenovo running win7 i'm typing to you on nor the new build can see it.
However it is listed in the gygabyte bios and it does show in ubuntu running from usb
yeah i know i could make it work from making it an external usb HDD, but i wanna try and make it an internal HDD slave.
There is a small bit of space unaccounted for in ubuntu gparted and i assume that's the hidden pqservice.
Oh and most important: win7 won't boot when i plug the hdd into the lenovo or the new build.
Again i'm assuming it's the pqservice saying "this isn't my computer!"
(oh and acer desk top was running windows 8)
maybe i'm way off and my assumptions are wrong, i'm a complete noob.
This is my first build ever and i'm beyond poor so i can't just buy a new hdd or ssd.

pqservice is Acer's hidden recovery partition. (will fix/recover your messed up win8 os)
it shows in gygabyte's bios but not this old lenovo's bios
don't have a capture program for screen shot currently but it won't boot into win7 with it plugged into sata anyway.
do you want a screen shot in ubuntu with nothing there anyway?
again.... won't boot into 7 with hdd connected to sata port.
most of the drive was formatted to nfts in ubuntu except for the small bit i think the "pqservice" is on.
(acer not coming back from the dead, no go there)
please help me post to proper forum subject if i'm in the wrong one.
maybe it's a problem sticking a win8 hdd on win7 machines?
again i'm a noob
this build is to teach me how to build and maybe get my feet wet overclocking and duel booting and learning a bit about ubuntu aswell. thanks for your quick response. gotta go for a few hours bbs.

mattios, new build is running the 160 GB HDD and i want to use the 1 TB as an internal slave. I don't want an OS on it at all. I believe the remnants of acer's "live hdd" also called the "pqservice" (whatever those terms mean) used to fix windows 8 is causing the problems.
Again, when the 1 TB hdd is plugged into the sata ports of ether of my windows 7 machines those computers won't boot up. So disk management is not an option. (yes i can make bootable usb's) I have an ubuntu stick and thats how i formatted the rest of the drive in gpart. Should use nstf format, no? But there is a bit of space left over that i'm sure is the problem.
Barty
just ran out of cash, gotta wait a couple weeks before i can buy anything to make it an external usb drive unless you can help tell me what wires to splice to what wires to make that work.
I have to stress i'm beyond poor here so i can't buy a case/usb for it atm. (think i saw something for $30 or so)
maybe i can boot into DOS or something and fix it there? Is that even an option these days?
Was hoping to use it internally, but i guess worst case is it gets put on the shelf for a few months till i can turn it into an external (seems like a waste)

after more googleing it looks like i'm asking for help erasing the mbr (damn you acer and your dumb names for things!). I believe it's this old bit of win8 screwing up my booting up of 7. Currently trying to do it in ubuntu because it seems to have no trouble seeing the HDD (although the part i want to erase seems to be currently hidden). Unless a size of 931.51 GiB and 232.88 "used" is normal for a 1TB HDD that only has 1 visible partition and the whole thing was freshly formatted....

ok messed around in ubuntu command terminal and gparted.... and now have got it to boot into 7 (took very long time at "starting windows" screen. I don't think i did anything to help though. Think i didn't wait long enough before, it took like 5 minutes! Still not showing in disk management in 7 and ubuntu still lists the 1TB as 931.51 GiB....

k so... here's what happened:
i ditched the 32 bit version of 7 i was cheating with (64 bit 7 on another computer couldn't "see" the drive ether though) and bought 8.1 cause it was cheap!
the drive showed up for me! So even though the drive was deleted and reformatted in ubuntu acer and seagate were up to something that made the HDD not backwards compatible to windows 7. Maybe i should have mentioned that the acer it came from was a windows 8 machine with an embedded product key (maybe that doesn't make a difference).
Googleing around I found it is the HDD that's not working with 7, as i found others with the same problem.
HDD is: Seagate Barracuda 1000GB ST1000DM003

thanks for responding guys, no one saw that coming. Even the "pros" at Memory Express where i picked up that 8.1 didn't think that should make a difference. But hey.... showed up like magic as soon as it was in 8.1.

I'm currently checking out the wonderful world of windows 10 via the free upgrade and all is well!
(seems to be the HDD firmware)
