I have a PC built in the Fractal Define Nano S. It fits on my desk quite nicely. However, in my new apartment there's only a little nook of space for a desk and my PC must sit on the ground. Are there any other space-savers that will give me more desk to work with? Is a monitor arm smart/practical? Is there a good small desk anyone can recommend?

Buggu,

Can you provide:

1. The volume available for the work area: height, width, and depth?

2 List in general everything that the desk has to include: monitor, computer, printer, office supplies, file drawers, room for drawing or writing, and so on.

3. Do you have a way to build anything?

My first idea is to buy a a table with screw on legs from IcKEA. You can also use a cut-down a flat panel door as a top and set them on plastic saw horses from a builder's supply. Plastic saw horses have a cross brace that can act as a shelf for the system and printer. The advantage of the door is that you can choose from a lot of widths and cut it to the exact length.

Under one saw horse or set of legs is the computer, under the other is the printer. The monitor is on an arm and the wall behind has a shallow shelf unit from IcKEA or similar.

Add another table top or cut panel on legs at the desk height as narrow L to the table. This can be the writing or drawing area if the desk top is full of the keyboard. Instead of the wall shelves, find a plastic office supply organizer with drawers / shelves and this sits under the L-section or acts as the base.

I've used some variation of this myself for years. It's fast to set up, space efficient, and inexpensive. In one version, I had two 5' (1.5M) tables on screw on legs and that's better looking, but at the moment I have an 6'8' X 2.8" (2M X 75cm) door on plastic sawhorses and this has one computer with double 27" monitors and the second system next to it. When I need a larger drafting area, I shift the second system monitor and keyboard to the back of the door as it quite deep. The monochrome laser printer sits on the right side sawhorse cross brace. This works really well as I can reach under the desk to the left and fuss with disks and flash drives in the computer and on the right side pick up prints without really moving.

Cheers,
