Help me find my wow bottleneck (RAM is suspicious)

hi, im new to the forums and i hope you guys can help me.


I'm trying to find my bottleneck in wow 5.4
basically it doesn't matter if i run it on low or ultra, i get ~17-24 fps in a crowded town.
I've also tried DX9 and DX11 setting as well as going fullscreen, windowed fullscreen and windowed.

my PC:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965
GPU: AMD HD 7790 1GB GDDR5 MSI OC
MB: MSI 970A-G43
RAM: 4GB 1333 GHz CL10 (single module)
HDD: Generic WD 500GB
Screen res. 1366x768
OS: Win7 Ultimate 64bit

Game version:
WoW MoP 5.4 (64bit client)

Temps, Load and RAM usage in a crowded town:
CPU: 48-53C, 40-50% load
GPU: ~35C, 25-35% load, 40%RAM usage
RAM: 71% usage

and one temp is at 60C, but i don't know what is it, Speed Fan shows it as "Temp 2".
sensor name is "f71889A", other info shown for that sensor are:
BUS: ISA
address: $480

software used:
Speed fan
GPU-Z
WIN7 Default Task manager

I suspect that the RAM CL value and capacity are the bottleneck.

I Hope i provided enough info, and that someone will be able to help me with this issue

The processor is fairly decent, the ram does seem to be an issue. Upgrading to dual channel 8 gigs would be very helpful. After that a new graphics card such as the 7950 or R9-280x would be great as well.

But as much as i can see the graphics cars isnt even used to the max here. and an upgrade to a R9 is not possible due to short budget.
also i failed to mention that the GPU has 1GB of ram. 400MB are used

Sounds like ram, or maybe HDD speeds, most likely ram however.

well i'm happy that you agree with me on the ram.
it would be great if someone could confirm this, eg. someone who actually had the same problem, and solved it by increasing the ram capacity and/or speed.

Well tried to answer and it messed up, I like others suspect memory but mainly due to the single stick limiting your bandwidth. I have tested a single 2 gig stick versus 2 - 1 gig sticks and had smoother play with the 2 - 1 gig sticks and think adding another stick will open things up for you also.
Also I get much better frame rates on wow from processor overclocks than video card overclocking as the sheer amount of code in the game makes it much harder on the processor.
From someone who has played Wow on several laptops the graphics settings also can give you some lags, try turning shadows and lighting down and see if that helps too.
Memory is $40 new but can be found used cheaper on ebay and Craigs list.

now as i am trying to save every coin (and i'm the EU *throws money and cries*) is is worth getting a 1600 MHz mem.
remember i'm trying to save ever coin and i never had a 1600 memory so i'm not sure how big of a difference does this make.
also i'm planing on buying 2x4GB mem.
i'm not sure that i need a cpu overclock since the game is using only max 50%. what do you think?

Wow definitely responds well to higher clocks on the processor, I am running an I-5 2500k and a 2gig 550ti overclocked and still saw a jump in frame rates going from 3.4 ghz to 4.3 ghz on the processor, and only a few fps gain when I originally OC'ed the video card before doing the processor. The processor was definitely the bottleneck at stock clocks. I run a $59 closed loop water cooler on the processor and idle at 90-95 degrees F and game at 140-145 degrees F with the overclock.

i will try buying 8GB kit (2x4) and i'l report the results on this thread also i might try to oc my cpu tho i'm not confident to keep that one rolling OC'd since a water cooling loop is not on my budget list and my cpu is at 50-55 C stock cooler when running wow.
