help me fix my computer!

My laptop, (I'm unsure of make and model) quit working on Christmas eve 2014. I had just turned it on and was working on my blog, when it froze, and then shut off. Now it will not turn on at all. Even with the power cord plugged in, it does nothing. It doesn't even show the little orange light that usually signifies that there is power to it and/or it is charging. It was fully charged when it quit working. What do I need to do in order to fix it. I really would like to avoid having to purchase a new one.

I do know that it has windows 8 on it.

Vembutech, I have done all of that and it doesn't turn on or show sign that power is getting to the computer.

Oh. Update. It is a HP with windows 8. 1.70 GHz AMD Dual Core. 4.0 GB RAM and 320 GB hard drive.

Tried hard resetagain, and tried different power cord as well again. Still nothing! Still will not turn on or show any sign of receiving power.
