I have

a amd 3500+ venice core
2 gb pc 3200 (4x512)
2x160 hdds
7600 gt xxx 650 core

The mobo everythings running on is a k8n neo4 msi platinum board.

Anyways im new at overclocking and need a little help.

First i went into the bios and pushed the fsb from 200 to 220 bringing my 2.2ghz cpu to a 2.4

When i ran 3dmark 06 or a game my pc freezes but when i turn it back to 2.2 its fine. Does anyone know anything else i should be adjusting or be doing to make it stable? Thanks

For starters you can read the Stickied posted guide on top of this forum... but after being too confused after the first sentence here's what you do. First thing when you go in your BIOS you need to turn up the voltage a little 1.40 is good place to start. Second thing there are 3 ways to oc a cpu. 1 turn up your cpu multiplier usually not perfered. 2 turn up your front side bus for this yun need to overclock your ram at the same time. 3 nope i think that's it. Third thing monitor your temps with a some sorta software make sure it never goes over 60C in there (70C is the actully danger point but i like to be safe). fourth always go in little steps and doing a at least 3 hour stability next for every step up. Fifth keep your eyes for artifacts or weird things on your screen means your cpu is unstable. Sixth if your computer doesn't not start means you've pushed too far (kinda kommon for this one ). But dont take me seriously I only overclocked Intel cpus before. Srry mate strickly a NVIDIA w/ Intel guy here. just offering sound generally tips.

Ok i kinda understand you. Only thing is how do i overclock my ram and whats a good starter for overclcoking my ram at the same time as my cpu. Btw my cpu is alreayd at 4.5 v so should i turn it down to 4.0?

1. Start with default BIOS settings
2. Increment your FSB in steps of 3-5 (so start with 205mhz)
3. Set your FSB:RAM ratio to 1:1 (or sync in some BIOS)
4. Set your RAM timings to "by SPD" (you'll be tightening these later)
5. Boot up, get a temperature monitoring program (speedfan, coretemp, mbm5)
6. Get some stress testing software (prime95, orthos)
7. Start stress testing, if your system is stable go back to step 2, if not, go back into BIOS and increment the voltage by one increment, and get back to stress testing.

Once you're happy with your FSB overclock and your CPU is running at an OK temperature, start tightening the RAM timings 1 at a time. I wont get into overvolting the RAM here.
