I need to overclock my 800Mhz tbird to 1Ghz!!(bridges are unlocked)
I use Asus A7V133 motherboard, latest BIOS.
320mb of CAS2 RAM (128Mb, 64mb of Kingmax RAM and 128Mb of CompUSA RAM).
my HSF is Global Win FOP38 (with a loud and FAST fan) connected directly to power supply cable (not to the motherboard!)
I use Arctic Silver2, and I applied the righ way! (followed al instructions)
my VCORE is 1.85
I tried to o'clock by setting multiplier of 10 and 100fsb, it would start and crash in a few seconds..(the temp. doesn't go highe than 48 I think...)
I tried 7.5 multiplier and 133fsb (RAM was set to 100Mhz ti make sure it's not memory problem)
wouldn't work either, crashes, but I believe the videocard and PCI devices handle it fine (GeFOrce2 MX AGP, USRobotics PCI modem and Sound Blaster Live! Value)
I tried setting memory to CAS3 - same thing...
What else can I try?

Even though you probably should be able to overclock it to 1GHz, it does sound like your RAM might be holding you back. You might have to settle with a FSB of 100

Anyways, I think you should take small steps, instead of the humongous jump from 800 to 1000. Keep it at 1.75v first. Set the FSB to 100. Now, increase the multiplier one step. I suggest downloading 3DMark and running the demo like 3 times. If that works, then increase the multiplier again. When it isn't stable, increase the voltage one notch, then try again. Continue in this fashion until you can't go any higher.

Again, just hearing you say CompUSA RAM just makes me shudder. Don't set your RAM to CAS3, because it'd be in your best interest to keep it at CAS2. You should've bought decent RAM, perhaps from Crucial.com. But, what can you do...

Best of luck to you!

I had a tbird 800 on a A7V133. I with same fan and AC. I could only get it to 7.0 * 135(945) it was unstable. but at 7.0 * 133(933) it was fine. From what I have read here you can only expect about 950 out of a 800 tbird a few will go a bit higher. With Voltage mods to the motherboard you could get more.

you will have to do a voltage mod if you really want to go further. My tbird 650 would only overclock to 866 with 1.9 vcore but with a voltage mod I can run it at 1054 with 2.22vcore.

What's your I/O voltage at?

Try 3.5 or 3.6 volts. Disable AGP 4X in BIOS. Use 100mhz X 10. If you can, disable ACPI. For now, open the case and use a room fan to blow in extra air. With an 800mhz Tbird you probably need to get CPU temperature well below 40 degrees if you hope to achieve 1ghz. They are just not very overclockable.

Would you like a Quarter Pounder?
No, thank you. Just give me the BIG heatsink. It's an Athlon.

well I got CompUSA RAM FREE! instant $20 rebate!! and I was surprised that it was CAS2! why would RAM hold me back? it works fine at 133MHZ! it's just 133 is the max it can do!
I tried all the steps and i have 3dmark2001 since it came out. It works super fine at 950, but at 1Ghz Win crashes!

OKAY...APOLIGIES TO COMPUSA RAM...

I've just read reviews that not all RAM have the same performance yields. But, just forget that then. That's cool that you got it for free...

Leave the RAM at 133. But, I think you'll have to set the FSB to 100. I wish I knew for sure that the PCI devices aren't holding you back, but you never know until you try. Set the vCore to 1.85v, and like someone's previous reply, maybe try increasing it to 3.45 Volt.

I hope you get there.
