Help me out here

Hello i upgraded my video card on my stock dell studio xps 435 and i upgraded it to a Geforce gtx 660 with 3 GB of video memory. I originally had 8 GB of RAM and then today i downloaded a game on steam and it said i didn't have the recremended amount of RAM. I then checked because it didn't seem right and it said i had only 4 GB of RAM. I already took my computer out and tried to see if any of it was loose. If you could help me out that would be greatly appreciated.
