Help me setup my home network connection

I have a ethernet connection which shared from my neighborhood's router, I have a PC and Laptop and need 2 devices work online in a same time, in other hand i have a wireless router and a Tenda 8 port 10/100 desktop switch, too. I tried to plug ethernet cable to switch and my computers to switch but they couldnot work.

Modem -> Router -> Switch -> Pc
|------------> Laptop

Help me to make it work , I spent a lot of time to try many way, thank you!!!

What about the IP? Aren't they static? What about the modem? Don't tell me is Motorola...there's so much cases like this all because the modem...Let me know the modem make and model so I can help you find more answers, partner. And hey, what about the workgroup? Have you tried to create one? This way the devices can communicate better.
