Hi, i have just brought a used Alienware M15 R4 gaming laptop. The CPU runs always between 90-100 degrees even when at idle. How can i get this cooler? Re-paste the CPU? Undervolt it?

I should mention i never use this for playing games directly or any high demanding tasks. Only browsing the web and streaming games via Steam.

Thanks in advance

Start by taking it apart and blowing any dust out.

If you have an HX series processor in it, you can try and undervolt the processor, not just the GPU. If you don't have an HX SKU'd processor, then you're left with undervolting the GPU. You can also replace the thermal paste with something higher in quality and while you're here, replacing the thermal pads for something higher in quality is also a good idea.

This is to add to what my colleague above has stated. Often times a used laptop comes with the former owners neglect bundled in with the purchase.

If you haven't reinstalled the OS, that would also be a good idea.

I have a i9-10980HK processor in it. When streaming games from a host computer via Steam I'm hitting like 95 degrees at only 5 percent CPU usage. I know nothing at all about undervolting CPUs, what does it do any how do you do it?
