help me to oveclock amd 64 x2 4000+

hello guys here is my system,
cpu-amd athlon 64 x2 4000+ dual core 2,1 Ghz
gpu-nvidia 8600 gt
ram-2 gb ddr2, overclocked to 800 mhz
and motherboard-gigabyte ga-m8sli-s4
now my problem is that when i try to overclock cpu ,max speed i can get is 2,48 Ghz and when i try to get more ,system on restart wants from me to choose fail safe settings or default setting ,so can anyone help me to get like 2,7 or 2,8 Ghz if no thanks anyway 😀.

I assume you mean GA-M59SLI-S4 . . That board can put out to OC that CPU without any power issues. Is the CPU getting enough Voltage, . Is the Temperature staying cool enough. or Not too hot.
I don't think AMD 64 x2 are unlocked multipliers , maybe some were. Assuming the latter you can change the FSB or CPU Frequency up to what you would need it at. 200MHz to 250MHz range, just guessing here.
I still have an Asus M2N 570SLI Deluxe. Similar CPU as yours. I am gonna have to hook it up, see what can be done. Until then i suggest heading on over to overclock.net and checking out the AMD Motherboard section of the forums.
