Hello,

I'm kinda lost and I need help with upgrading my current build => https://imgur.com/a/aVtWt (w10)

Components and reasons why I think I need upgrade:

  • my HDD started to make weird noises and incredibly slowed down in performance (seagate software says its 100% fine...)

  • I need 2x SSDs, one for OS and one for games, playing on ultra/high = 2+ minutes loading screen - 9 players waiting for me every match/game

  • I just think my RAMs arent good enough for this build? or am I wrong??

So,

for HDD I found WD RED 3,5" 2TB - since i would have games installed on ssd I dont need wd black right? more like reliable, durable and stable HDD (or am I wrong?)

SSDs
so I have already at home samsung 960 evo 250gb meant for OS (im just totaly totaly bad at "building" pc so be it fear or laziness - I will do that while adding hdd and ram + ssd for games together)
second ssd for games samsung 850 evo (not m.2, i think my motherboard has only one m.2?)
should i buy different ssd for games? should I change that i would have games on m.2 960 evo and 850 for os?

RAM
this is something i kinda never knew about (max that there are some "GBs" 4/8/16/32 etc... didnt even know there is some "ram frequency"...)
so since I have ddr3 - should i go for 2400? also im kinda scared about compatibility between my motherboard and rams - if the ram has "DDR3" in name/description is it 100% all time compatible?
i read a bit about it and found out that 2x4gb (have atm) is 100% enough, but these were some old topics, its 2018, is 16 gbs for games (possibly streaming/recording) overkill?

I'd like also to ask about overclocking cpu and gpu but i guess this isnt the right section for this?

Will appreciate any help/info/advice!

edit:
1.build meant for playing games at highest settings (not playing the most demanding games tho... more like competetive games where u need ateast stable 144fps for that 144hz monitor)
2.i wouldnt say im limited by budget but im not milionare tho

Having your OS on a separate partition makes it easier to reinstall the OS. You can format the partition without data loss, as long as you keep your data and saved games on another partitions. You can create several partitions on a larger drive or use separate drives.

I supposed you have 8GB now and that you use two modules. 2x4=8, 4x4 would be 16 if you decided to upgrade. Having 4 modules is not a big deal. Using only two modules is marginally better in very special cases.

Well here are some detailled guides:

WD RED is reliable and silent, good choice.

You do not have to buy different SSDs. For gaming the Samsung drives are good.

8GB ram should be enough, playing on higher resolutions or specially demanding games you can benefit from 16GB. As a rule of thumb try to buy the same RAM modules you already have. Ask the reseller about returning policies in case of incompatibility!

There are overclocking guides on tomshardware and other sites. Do you want some links? You will need a stable power supply and both motherboard and processor support for overclocking the CPU. And a good cooler!

Oh okay, but isnt it better to have OS "alone" or it doesnt matter at all?

You mean to add additional 2x4gb to get overall 4x4gb? Isnt better 2x8gb? Also I'm not sure if I have slots for another 2 pieces.

I checked few overclocking tutorials, but then just in case I check more and more and everyones settings is different even tho its same cpu and going for same/similar GHz etc. so I am really confused. I am probably looking for some links, like for noobs where it's even explained why he set this and that and not just follow steps by steps.
