Help me upgrade my computer

Ok so eventually I would like to upgrade to the new bulldozer but Im not sure what things I should keep or change out. I currently just use my computer for gaming and music with the occasional microsoft office. This is what I currently have....


PSU- 1200 watts Silverstone
RAM- 4x2 8gb patriot gaming 2 series
Motherboard- asus formula IV
CPU- phenom ii 980 overclocked to 4.5ghz
Videocard- CF x2 HIS 6870 1gb
Case- Rosewill Blackhawk Gaming atx mid tower case
HDD- Boot: Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive
Storage: 1tb western digital 7200

I try to future proof my computer but Im looking for suggestions from you guys. I was going to change the motherboard to a AM3+ for the new bulldozer, but Im not sure if I need to switch out my CPU because most games arent going to need 8 cores. Also what is a good videocard you guys recommend? Im looking for one that will last me a long time and hopefully can play skyrim on max settings.

your computer is fine. Bulldozer won't even help you with gaming since it's Octacores. Games right now just use 2-4 cores so you won't notice any big difference from your phenom.

Skyrim... Your specs will max it out easily.

I have the witcher 2 and it auto detects to high but it wont do the ultra settings. Im I doing something wrong?

Yeah, you should be easily handling Witcher 2 with your specs and dual GPU set up.

but eventually games are going to be using more cores but until then dont change anything correct?
