Hello everyone this is my first posting on this forum I usually use another but this seems quite a bit more active. So I need to build a new PC. However I only need to purchase the CPU, The Cooler, motherboard, RAM, SSD and maybe a PSU I have everything else. See below for details. I have picked out Some parts.

Approximate Purchase Date: This Week
Budget Range: $1000
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming
Are you buying a monitor: No
Parts to Upgrade: CPU, Motherboard, Memory, SSDs, CPU Cooler, Maybe a PSU.
I already have a Seasonic FOCUS Plus 650 Gold SSR-650FX 650W 80+ Gold ATX12V & EPS12V Full Modular 120mm FDB Fan Compact 140mm Size Power Supply, Gold Modular FX
I already have a Lian Li PC-O11DX 011 DYNAMIC
Do you need to buy OS: Yes but not including it in this price
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Amazon (I don't know why dont kill me. However if you see better pricing somewhere else I am game)
Location: Miami Florida US
Parts Preferences: I don't care anymore whatever works really. I kinda have brand fatigue. However I do like corsair, Gigabyte, Lian Li, EVGA and G.Skills
Overclocking: Maybe - I plan to take my time to watercool and style my rig in the next six months
SLI or Crossfire: No - why?
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My current rig is not working.

Parts I have picked out.

  1. CPU - AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600 6-Core, 12-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler - $200
  2. CPU Cooler - Vetroo V5 CPU Air Cooler w/ 5 Heat Pipes 120mm w/Addressable RGB Lights Sync(V5, Black) - $35
  3. Motherboard - Gigabyte B550 AORUS Elite V2 (AMD Ryzen 5000/B550/ATX/PCIe4.0/DDR4/USB3.2 Gen 1) - $163
  4. RAM - G.Skill Trident Z Neo Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin SDRAM PC4-28800 DDR4 3600 CL16-19-19-39 1.35V - $195
  5. SSDs
    1. TEAMGROUP MP33 512GB SLC Cache 3D NAND TLC NVMe 1.3 PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 Internal Solid State Drive SSD (Read/Write Speed up to 1,800/1,500 MB/s) - $44
    2. TEAMGROUP MP33 1TB SLC Cache 3D NAND TLC NVMe 1.3 PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 Internal Solid State Drive SSD (Read/Write Speed up to 1,800/1,500 MB/s) - $80
  6. PSU (maybe) - Cooler Master MWE Gold 550 Full Modular 80+ Gold 550W Compact PSU with 120mm Silent Fan, Flat & Flexible Cables $82
these come in under $800 what do you guys think? I probably move up to 5700x or something.

Solution
I could be wrong its just what I heard. he said that he was not getting the right clock frequency because of his motherboard and It was a 12400 core with a b660 board. but I never built one so I don't know. I do like the sound of the 12600k. I just checked it out looking at some z690 motherboards now.

Most likely they bought a board with a poor VRM solution, haven't disabled power limits, or both. Personally, I would go with a 12700, and a B660 board, with a decent VRM solution.

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700 2.1 GHz 12-Core Processor ($342.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI PRO B660-A DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard ($149.99 @ B&H)
Total: $492.98

What GPU do you currently have?
You should get a 12400 or 12600k from intel with a b660 or z690 for the latter. The 12600k will only be able to be overclocked on a z690 motherboard. Both CPUs perform better than a 5600. And that power supply would be a downgrade from your Seasonic one. If you go with intel choose 3200 cl16 ram. Also the 12600k will need a beefier cooler. Maybe a dark rock 4

I have a gtx 1060 but I also have a rx 6600x on the way. gift for my birthday.

I have gotten really bad reviews on the 12th gen intel on the b660 motherboard from my friends. not sure about the z690. Would it be better to go with a 5700x or a 6700?

Bad reviews in what regard because I've yet to see a thread on here with someone receiving a flawed B660 board.

what about this one. Intel Core i7-12700KF the other only has one left in stock and its only 351.

what is your reasoning for going with a b660 over the z690? are you saying if I reduce the price of that motherboard I can get a beefier CPU?

The non K 12700 doesn't overclock, so no need for a Z690 board. There is very little headroom, in these chips, so overclocking doesn't really make sense, unless it is something you really enjoy playing with.
