I'm building a new gaming desktop, and my laptop is broken but the HDD still working. I wonder if I can put the laptop HDD to my desktop? Does it using the same screw as the SSD? And my laptop is using Windows 8.1 64 bit Pro, so if I put it in my desktop, will my laptop be able to run the OS in that drive? Thank you.

The OS that was installed on your laptop will not run in a new system. You can use the hard drive from the laptop in the new system, but you will need to purchase/install a new OS onto it. The current OS is tied to the laptop and cannot be moved.

I'm intsall the os from the Windows 8 64 bit Pro and upgrade it through Store and it's not going to work with my laptop? Does it using the SSD screw to mount on to the HDD cage?

If your laptop came with some other OS (XP, 7, or Vista) and you purchased a Windows 8 DVD/license (full version) to install over that, then you may be able to reinstall Windows 8 using that laptop's hard drive in your new system.

If your laptop came with some other OS (XP, 7, or Vista) and you purchased a Windows 8 DVD/license (Upgrade) to install on top of that, then you will need to purchase a new Windows license for your laptop's hard drive in your new system.

If your new case does not have a 2.5" drive bay, you should probably use a 3.5" to 2.5" drive bay adapter for installing the laptop drive into your new system. Something like this

I think my Phanteks Enthoo Pro case can install the 2.5" hard drive on a 3.5" hard drive bay. but what screw does it using? My Windows should be full version.
