Hi people,
I m new one here. I have a problem with media converters.
I have planet 702s media converter. This is gigabit converter. If i have on one side gigabit NIC and on the other 100 mbit will it working?? Or if i put other side on switch gigabit and then put my pc with 100mbit NIC in the same switch but on 100mbit port??
What is your suggestion? Because when i try directly over media converter and PCs with Gbit NIC that works fine but i have some software on the older one which have 100mbit NIC then older one just blinking plugged in cable, unplugged cable and cycling... Thank you

Solution
Without digging thought the manual for that device it is hard to say. Many only run at 1g speed. Some contain a small switch and can run the ethernet port at either 1g or 100m but the optics always run at 1g no matter what.

As you suspect the solution if it does not run directly at 100m it so plug it into a switch to in effect convert 1g to 100m. It will still run the optical path at 1g but the buffers in the switch will allow for the difference. You of course will only get 100m effective throughput rates because your PC can not run any faster.
