Currently working on a bud's PC.
We've deduced the actual physical Ram isn't the issue but he keeps getting a few BSODS.
We highly doubt it's a virus, though there has been a few moment's where we thought it could be the issue.
The various thing's we've done to eliminate some confounding options would be.
The BSODS started happening increasingly over time, originally everything was good, his brand new PC was running great, but suddenly about a month ago it began to have some freezes and everytime it started it said "Memory error" (Even though he never schedules a ram check on launch) eventually it even started to BSOD.
Some of the BSOD' were:
-< IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
-< MEMORY_MANAGMENT_ERROR
-< CHECK_FAILURE
We ran a few mem checks and we deduced it wasn't a bad Ram Port, as the error would appear no matter what slot we put them into (yes in the correct orders). We also individually checked the rams and they both had issues, so it has lead me to assume the physical ram isn't the issue.
Since it was a relatively new issue we thought we could try to restore it to a point to before the issue arose and maybe it was some file he had downloaded but oddly enough system restore was extremely corrupt and buggy, didn't work at all, had to do tons of cmd stuff and it never ended up working.
We noticed every time we ran a security check with McAfee he would crash as well.
(sounds like a virus to me)
We tried to DISM and CHKDSK and as well SFC but they generally led to BSOD'.
His PC has always had a ton of corrupt files for some odd reason and
We've managed to in a sense stabilize his computers life, it runs like a turtle on a hangover.
What we did is I made a restore Media on a USB with my PC and used it on his PC to clean install windows 10 with a version that couldn't be corrupt, cause I know for a fact my PC is virus clean, unless it's a sleeper cell or something. We reinstalled it and begun to run verifier and it started to get some BSODS
but the crashes became way way less frequent. Also, DISM, CHKDSK and SFC began to work correctly.
The BSODS:
-< PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
-< SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
The memory issues have stopped arising but obviously these BSOD' are annoying, and I personally with my limited knowledge think it's a driver issue now?
My next Three courses of action would be:
Disable Verifier and run in safe mode, do virus scans to ensure its not a virus (Which I would be impressed if a virus were to survive a complete reformat.)
[strike] -< Intentionally crash the computer while verifier is disabled and use WhoCrashed to inspect the crash log.
Run DISM and SFC a once or twice in Safe mode[/strike]
[strike]-< Revert to a NVidia Game ready Driver from March 20th (seven days before it began)
[/strike]
-< Please contact me with any tips or advice, any help. Worst case scenario if it some how manages to be his ram, he has corsair ram so we can just get it replaced.
If something is unclear ill be refreshing this page every 5 minutes to check for replies lol, just ask me and i'll reply fast (keemstarspeed)
