Help! Monitor can't see my new sapphire HD5450

Hi,

I have an old HP Pavilion a6244n, and the original graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 8300) crapped out a few years back. So after a little hassle, I was able to use the on board graphics to get by.

So I decided i wanted to get a semi-decent card installed. So first, I installed a new power supply (Thermaltake TR2-430w). Everything is fine and works with the onboard graphics. Then I uninstalled the old geforce drivers, disabled the onboard display adapters and installed the new card. But the new card isn't being recognized by the monitor. I'm sure that power to the monitor is good, that the monitor works and that the rest of the computer is set up fine, because if i remove the card and plug back into the onboard card, it still works.

The one thing everyone says to do, is go into BIOS and delete/disable the onboard graphics, but my BIOS (Phoenix tech, v 5.23) doesn't have that option. It only allows you to set a primary, which I've set PCI.

Can anyone help me trouble shoot this? I'm willing to bet I have to find a way to tell my motherboard to ignore the onboard grahpics card, but BIOS won't let me. Anyone have a work around? :cry:
 
Which output are you using on the hd5350? and usually the bios is set to default to a card if detected. If you keep the card in and hook the monitor up to the onboard does the onboard still work. or with the card in neither work?
 
First thing u did wrong was disable the on-board on a hp myself you dont need to disable anything, just plug it in, plug the cables to the graphics card via (6pin) (8pin) and boot the system up and wait for half a minute till it starts to boot from the grpahics card, you'll know it worked if the BIOS or the password screen is larger or smaller then normal, because you havent setup the drivers yet
 


Shouldn't you be setting the bios primary video to PCI-E? (Not PCI)
 


If i keep the card in, neither works. I have to remove the card for the onboard to work. The card does not have a place to directly plug into the power supply (the power supply has a 6 pin PCI E port, but that goes unused in this case). It must get power from the mother board.
 



This card doesn't have a 6 pin power supply, it must get it's power from the mother board.
