Hello. I need help, like I've never needed it before.

I built my desktop in the UK over 3 years, Gigabyte B85M-DS3H 2x 8GB hyperx mem sticks i3 4150 GTX 960 2gb (EZcool ATX-500 JSP ATX Power Supply Unit Switching Mode 20+4-Pin ATX) 100GB + 240GB SSDs

I bought a 3 pin power cable for the PC to use in the US, as i'll be here for another 20 days or so and was looking for a temp solution. Travelling with the PC was fine, all components removed and in static bags, bubble wrapped, pc brought as carry on, desktop re-assembled fine, cpu reseated. Now please forgive me, im no expert, but there were no complications in bringing the PC here.

My problem is this. I plug in the PC to the US outlet, my GPU light turns on, the PC turns on, and my fan is spinning about 2x as fast as normal. Also, I have no monitor, as I planned to use HDMI connections to a television.

So, I turn on the pc connected to the tv, but get no image, and my keyboard shows no response. The PC turns on fine, but I've hit a wall and it's hurting me. I connected only the bootdrive so far, but I am at a loss as to why I get no image, no response from keyboard to even view the BIOS.

I do not believe any components are damaged, as it turns on fine, can stay on fine, GPU responds, fan is alive, but there is no picture and no keyboard response. So, please, if anyone has an idea of how I may proceed, or any tips to try, I am eagerly waiting a response.

The only idea i've had so far is the power supply unit, it is pretty old and does not have any manual switch on the back for voltage. Also, the HDMI connections work fine on the tv, as do VGA cables on this laptop. I've searched internet for a bit with no luck. Sorry for the long post, but any more info needed I will be glad to provide. Thank you.

Solution
My guess is that your PSU is only designed for 220/230V and in the US I believe they have a 110V current. Just be glad your PSU prevented everything from frying. You probably need a transformer from 110V to 230V. I dont live in the US so I´m guessing.

Solution

I am using the 500W EZCool Switching Mode Power supply (ATX-500 JSP), I assumed it would switch automatically but when I noticed the 2x fan speed I wasn't sure.

I had the same experience, couldn't find any details on it. Someone gave it to me 2nd hand 4+ years ago, so it really is beyond its use now.

Thank you guys for your time and help, I really appreciate it. I will go out and seek a new PSU, and update thread.

All the best!

The second image, is the exact model I am using. Thanks for the help!

hope a new psu sorts you out

and at least in the usa you can get a decent one a whole lot cheaper than over here in the uk

Yeah, and if you buy a reputable PSU, you can use it in both the USA and UK.

Hey I picked up an Antec 450W PSU this morning, installed it and am now up and running on the HDTV. Also, it has a switch to 230 at the back, so was a great choice. Thank you guys again for your help, wish you all a happy new years. bless
