Hi,
I have a Asus Rog g20cb, i76700(skylake) and im upgrading my Gpu from a 950 to a 1060, now the the Rog you have 2 psu, a 180w and a 230w, with my 950 I had the 230w psu But with the 1060 I need them both.
I know I have to move a pin on the motherboard called JDCII, one pin to the left, But I also heard about 5 pins next to a block called R20 that need moving up by One pin.
can someone please tell me do I need to move the JDCII and the 5 pins or just the JDCII ?

appreciate your time

sniff sniff....I smell smoke.

Get a single reliable PSU that has the proper connections.

This cannot be stressed enough.

I've heard some funny money saving ideas before but this one has got to be the strangest one ever at least as far as computers go.
The guy above me said just use one Power Supply and he is absolutely correct.
I could see if you had a quad sli setup and needed more power adding a separate PS for some GPU's but this is completely different.
You are risking frying components with this endeavor. Who knows what might happen with two different electrical currents being supplied.
There is no guarantee they will be in phase with each other. AC is alternating current its not a constant like DC power, your house has two different feeds at different phases for example. These power supply's have to convert the power to DC format and with different oscillation etc.
Its just a really bad idea.

My rog uses laptop psu. The new rogs that come with the 1080s use the same 2 power supplies. So I'm even more confused lol. So you saying get a £150 psu and stick it in the 230w jack or 180w jack?
I read and watch vids of people putting 1070 and 1080 in and runs fine with the 2 power packs.
Im in need for more help now lol. Lucky for me the 1060 is a 6pin like my 950 so I haven't got to get an 8pin cable for the mobo. Which is good for me as I'm new to the pc world and still learning.

Thanks for your time

You bought a really crappy "desktop" that should not be upgraded the way you think it should be.

If you've found online resources that say it can be done...then do it exactly as they say it can be done.

it's not my set up m8. The rog g20cb comes with the 230 and 180w. Asus idea lol.
tbh I get my 144fps on most and 60 on more demanding games and temps wonder around 60 on mobo and 70 on gpu which I read is normal for a compact pc like my g20.
Im just following guild lines really because as I stated in my previous message I'm new to the pc world. I normally buy a new one when the system starts to play up. But I'm a family man now. So as you probably aware money get tight lol.

Thankyou again for your time

Yikes. Essentially an all-in-one without the display. Unfortunately, this is essentially an immobile laptop.

Upgrading this is out of my realm of expertise. Your next build, I'd strongly urge a different path. You don't need to buy a new system every time the only one loses power; a good build is easy to upgrade. I know people who have migrated the same build for 20 years and are on their 3rd or 4th generation of unique parts.

Crappy? It runs what I play. and how I like. (Rb/arma) So tbh not Crappy to me. And Read more and don't skim the surface and you see that the g20 is upgradable and will last me plenty of time before buying a new system.

Cheers for your response

"crappy", as in the upgradability.
It is basically a laptop or All-In-One, minus the monitor, in a desktop looking case.

Yes, the performance may be exactly what you need. Today.
But for upgrades? Not so much.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from akjunior : "G20 CB pins"

Dszymbroski I did realize the mistake I made when I bought the system 18months plus ago. But I'm new to the gaming world. And lessons learnt lol But. Like I said prior I can run games i play fine at the minute. And even heavy hitters like kingdom of deliverance runs steady on it. So I'm not going out tomorrow and spend £2000 on a new system, so I went the easy route and upgrade from 12gb to max 32gb and a 950 to a 1060. And asked a simple question about jumpers not is my rig anyone's taste lol.. looks good tho lol. But joking aside. Just a QnA about the jumpers.

Thankyous for your time

USAFRET I said the same to DSzymbroski I made a mistake on the purchase but trying to make good on a bad sitution. Upgrade what I can as long as I can before going all out on a new system.

Cheers for your time.

Yeah I might go that route later on but I'm happy with the performance now. And should be ok for a good while. Plus I just bought a 144hz monitor i can't even try to persuade the wife on me spending more money on the PC. She 'cut' my nuts of so to speak lol.

But still no further on the 5 jumpers lol..

Thankyou for your time anyhow bud.

have you tried this?

I apologize I did not realize what you had, I now see what you mean.

https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?88678-Asus-g20aj-upgrade-to-gtx-1070-help-!!

No one is mentioning these other pins you speak of but they say they did upgrade their video cards.
did you get a 6 to 8 pin cable like this ? https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-2-Pack-Adapter-Inches/dp/B01DV1Z32Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1476063113&sr=1-1&keywords=pci-e+adapter+6+pin+to+8+pin

No need for an apology. It is a wierd set up. I bought a 1060 6pin as my 950 is a 6pin and I'm kinda new to the pc world so thought it be a easy option.
The 2nd power pack turned up today. But the clover leaf cable is only a 5A which I thought be a 13A for UK lol. So more reading ahead of me lol.

ok quick edit shame you cant, found this watch this video shows the jumpers you need to change!
