Hello, I've ordered an Asus laptop about a week ago now, it's called X556U and has
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7200U Processor
NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU
and it also... has or had a hard disk

When i received it, it had only MS-Dos, I installed Windows 10
It was all okay, for about one or two days, then the Disk Use in task manager went up to 100%! i disabled services that i could find on google, and they worked!.....
.....for about 2 minutes each

I reinstalled windows again, had over 5 total reinstalls of windows 10, sometimes it'd start on a clean install

then i moved on to windows 8.1
it was fixed! well, performance wise, but it still showed me 100% disk use.

after installing my stuff, downloading some steam games, suddenly, the 100% disk use COMPLETELY froze my computer, EVERYTHING crashed

the windows crashed without a BSOD, and i couldn't boot in again. I was incredibly sad and stressed since i couldn't fix this for a whole week and i spent all the money i saved on it... but then i checked diskpart's list disk - THE HDD IS NO LONGER RECOGNISED, then i checked the BIOS, and it's Completely Gone! What can i do? the laptop has one of those insurance screws that if you want to open it, you will tear the plastic. All i want to do at this point is return the laptop if possible to the seller, any other suggestions perhaps? and how to avoid this in the future?

Thank You, from an incredibly frustrated, desperate user...

I think its actually got this on it, from memory I have seen a few people come here after buying win 10 to install on laptops - http://wiki.freedos.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page - just search dos on laptop and a lot of these are available in India.. from many different makers. I don't know how that works exactly. Maybe dell laptops in India don't automatically come with a Win 10 licence.

Its probably cheaper.

A 1 week old Asus laptop is totally under warranty and you should be asking Asus for help/repairs way before coming here and asking us.

How do you get a laptop with just dos on it now anyway? Laptop is meant to have win 10 on it, it is the only OS supported with drivers.

Sorry I have difficulty using this website, I hope this replies to the right person

To answer why dos, I don't know. But it was cheaper than others, I'd imagine it's due to a lack of windows license cost.

And say what you will about drivers, I have found that every driver, if downloaded manually, worked just fine. I had much better performance on Windows 8.1 even before I installed drivers than Windows 10 with full drivers..

Oh and I have contacted the company that I've bought it from, thank you for that advice ^^ I'll bring the laptop over to them soon, hope they'll sort it out... It's been a hell of a week fixing something constantly that keeps on dying...

I very seriously doubt that Asus would put out a laptop with DOS on it. The fact is, any modern software just doesn't run on DOS anymore.

I would be curious as to where you purchased it through. Sounds to me like you got a bad product and I would be returning it to Asus.

I hadn't seen that before either. Just out of curiosity, the hardware should still be the same. Did you go to Asus to download the drivers that would normally come installed? If you did that and had the proper driver, then it sounds like you have a bad laptop. I would check to see about getting it swapped out or sent to Asus for repair.
