Follow these steps:
1. Open PC chassis to see if the HDD is physically still present in your system.
2. Check that the HDD has a connected power cable and data cable.. The power cable must be connected to the HDD and the PSU. The data cable must run from the motherboard SATA header to the HDD. Check these connections.
3. Boot PC and press either F2, F10 or del to go into bios. Under storage or HDD settings tab, see if all your HDD's and optical drives are listed. If they are indeed listed don't change anything. Exit BIOS without saving.
4. PC will reboot once you exit BIOS. Wait for OS to boot. Once in OS (assuming windows), press windows button and "r" to bring up the run box. Type "compmgmt.msc" without the inverted commas. Wait a few...
