Help my samdisk cruzer 8gb is showing error and asking to format it! it has my daughters wedding photos on and they are vital.
the error msge reads: "an error has occurred while initializing U3 launchpad Drive F is unavailable or unformatted. please format the drive, remove, reinsert and try again?
I have the only copies of these photos on this cruzer drive I know my password but it will not open the programme
what can i do to get the photos out and safe on a cd?
many thanks for help in this matter
Cliff.

Remove the pen drive.
Restart your computer.
Re-insert pen drive when Windows has finished loading completely.

If still no joy, try the pen drive on a different computer.

In future, please do not use a pen drive as storage for important data, or at the very least back up the data to optical disc or hard drive as soon as possible whilst the pen drive is working properly. Pen drives are not all suitable for storing important files on!

Hello Philip, many thanks for your suggestions and advice, unfortunately after trying on two other computers one laptop and also a pc with turning the computers off as you suggest, I am getting the same message, but when I have opened my HP help page and run a memory and drive check, it reports that the cruzer is working properly?
It seems to be a problem with the U3 opening programme that is on the cruzer that usually opens when the pen drive is first inserted in the computer.
I take your point about storage of important info on this sandisk cruzer drive, but I bought this item because it was supposed to provide secure storage? Sandisk did not include a warning with this unit saying don't trust it!
What are my options now do you think? Sandisk helpline are not at all helpful, presumably because the sell this as a secure storage device and don't want to tell me how to open it if it's locked, even though I have the password.

Best regards, Zingaroo
