I just bought a Samsung UN40JU7500 Curved 40-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV and want to use it as a gaming monitor. I've got my graphics card (which is brand new, supports 4k resolution) running.

Right now I'm pushing out HDMI 2.0 @ 29hz @ full 4k resolution. How do I get this thing to run at 60hz. Mind you there is no native displayport input in the monitor as it's actually a TV by default, but of course it has HDMI inputs.

Running Windows 10 which btw does PHENOMENAL upscaling on Fonts, UX to finally make a 4k display usable.

Solution
Have you tried the monitor options in windows, it should be select-able in there if the connection supports it (which it does). You also may want to try a different port on the TV just in case.
@unskol - yes just bought the GPU yesterday - XFX AMD Radeon R9 390 8GB GDDR5. Any chance that would top out @29hz on HDMI 2.0?

@Rogue Leader (great handle) - Would the TV ports clock at different rates?

I did some research a while ago, and recall that on some TV units, the actual hdmi port made a difference.
There may also be an option in the tv setup. It might be called game mode or monitor mode or such.

One other possibility is if your HDMI cable is of poor quality or unusually lengthy.

The R9 390 is only HDMI 1.4a so it will not support 60hz out. You need to use display port to get 60 hz

As for the ports yes its possible. I have a 65 inch curved Samsung and some of the ports are preferred over others for 4K input. For example only one has MHL. Your screen may have a different port setup though. That said the card doesn't support it.

@unskol - the cable could be the culprit in this case. It's a couple years old so I already ordered one yesterday just in case. I just didn't think the GPU + Monitor would be smart enough to communicate that thru to the OS to say "hey, only give this guy 29hz".

@rogue leader - are you saying I should use MHL? I hadn't played with the different ports since it didn't occur to me they would have any difference.

Updated my post, the AMD cards only support HDMI 1.4a so you need to use display port to get 60 HZ, unfortunately that won't work with your TV.

The Nvidia GTX980 and 980 Ti both support HDMI 2.0

Any chance you can point me to something on Amazon that you'd recommend? Preferably something sub $600. You just saved me a world of time. Many thanks.

I'm partial to EVGA

The GTX 970 does HDMI 2.0 as well. Just picked up a used EVGA one for $230 just for that purpose. I bought a Samsung UN40JU7100 (still in transit).
According to Rtings.com for the 7100 "4k @ 60 fps worked at chroma 4:4:4. You need to turn on 'UHD Color' and also set the input to PC. If it doesn't work for you, try changing your cable. It didn't work with our Monoprice 18 Gbps 15ft Redmere cable, but it worked with a cheap 3 ft one."
