I just got Fios Gigabit Connection with a new Verizon router. On speed tests: My 17R Dell Inspiron 5737 laptop only gets 96Mbps. There's no speed difference between wired or wireless. BUT: A different laptop gets 601Mbps.
What can I do to bring my Dell laptop up to speed? I'm told that the Dell Ethernet card can't be changed/upgraded. Is that correct? Do I need an upgraded Wifi card? Which one? How can I make the Dell laptop as fast as the other laptop? [The laptops are run under same conditions. One is fast, the Dell is slow.]

The Dell specs say: Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller (10/100MBit/s). Network adapter 10/100 Mbps Ethernet LAN on Motherboard (LOM). Wireless, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. Intel Core i5. 8GB RAM.

I'm using Windows 8.1, Chrome web browser. Sorry but I'm not technically versed. Your ideas and suggestions to speed up the Dell are appreciated. Thank You!

That 10/100 ethernet card is all you will get. 96mbps is exactly right.

You can add a 802.11ac USB WiFi dongle.

Do NOT get one of the tiny nano things.

So the Network adapter 10/100 Mbps is the limiting factor? And it can't be replaced/upgraded?
Can the internal Wi-Fi card be upgraded or will it be too slow?

Thanks for your reply.

What you will do, or need for, with faster internet?
It's not a question of what I need or will do with faster internet. I already have fast internet- Fios Gigabit. Now I'd like to be able to actually use it. The issue is bringing the Dell up to speed.

Maybe my question will help others who have a slow computer connection on a fast internet service. Thanks for reading my question.
