Help need with OCing my i5-4670k

Hi,

I want to OC my CPU. got the MSI G45 motherboard with a Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO Cooler.
Idle is my tempature aroun 48 degrees. pretty high I think?

I want to know how and if its possible to OC my i5 safely to 4GHZ.

That sounds Very high at idle. My 4670k is OCd to 4.6Ghz and idles around 30c. Granted I have liquid cooling, but only a low spec model cooler.

I would recommend refitting CPU cooler and check temps again before overclocking.

I agree with djjag1 in that those temps aren't good for idle. If you overclock it at that temp, it's only going to get worse.

So i did refit my cooler and indeed its around 34-35 degrees now, thats like 10 degrees lower! Do I have enough room now to easy OC my CPU to 4GHZ? If yes. can someone provide me with some good help!

Yes, 34* - 35*C. is perfectly normal.

I also have an MSI MB and I have found the MSI - Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to be very helpful in OC'ing. It should have come on the utilities and drivers CD with the MB, or you can just D/L from MSI's website. The IXTU will not do automatic OC, like "OC Genie" (not recommended, BTW) but rather allows you to manually change relevant settings, just like in the BIOS, without rebooting. Highly recommended!

Using the info in that thread, and a little experimenting, I now operate at a very stable 4.6 GHz.
