Problem is my mobo and chip have died, so I want to upgrade to the
i7 4790k think this is a good replacement for the 2600k but can't decide which mobo would be best, I want to be able to oc fairly simpily so was looking at another Asus but would also like to have room to upgrade my gpu into some sort of sli/crossfire setup later on, could someone please tell me which is the cheapest asus mobo I should be looking for? I use ebuyer so if you could find the board on there then post the link to it I would be very greatfull.

A lot of guys say the i5 is good for gaming also, so if you want to save some money, might be worth a look. How do you know the 2600k died? I worked on a system a while back where the board died but cpu lived, so you might be able to get a board and get that chip to run again if you wanted to save money.

Most any Z97 based motherboard with two pcie x16 slots will do the job.
One from asus might be the Asus Z97-PRO GAMER

I think this is the least expensive from asus.
The key for you to look for is a Z97 chipset and two X16 slots capable of x8/x8 to enable sli.

My upgrade plan is to use a single strong card so you could save some there with a lesser motherboard.
'A GTX980 is capable of superior gaming on any single monitor short of a 4k monitor

Chip is definitely dead ( tried it in a clone of the same system I built a while back) and as for the i5 that's only a slight improvement over the 2600k where as the newer i7 will have a longer life and give a higher performance boost not that that's important right now but later on when I up the gpu I will c a better gain- just can't decide which board has the best bang for its buck.
