Team,

Im a noob here but somewhat smart on electronics.
And I need your help...

I have ATT Uverse gigabit ethernet with their stock (crap) wireless Arris modem/router.

I bought the RT-AC87U & love that it has strong signal strength.
Now comes the moment of truth of setting up the RT unit to be my wireless source for all TVs, Cellphones, etc, in my home & to turn off the ATT provided wireless.

But how do I do that?
Is it as simple as putting the RT into bridge mode & then hard wiring it to my ATT unit (while also disabling wireless on my ATT unit). I know I cant have both units doing DHCP & assigning IP addresses, but I dont specifically know what to do.

I dont want it as a repeater. I want it to be hardwired & to essentially take over the wireless broadcasting part of the job, since the ATT one is crap & gets very little distance.

Can someone please help with directions on what configs I need to change.

Thank you

Chris

Solution
Is not that complicated.

1. Disable Arris Wifi.
2. Leave DHCP as is.
3. Configure RT exactly as old WIFI, SSID, subnet, mask, how many IP you are leasing out etc.
4. RT should NOT be doing NAT, it should be on the same subnet as your existing LAN. This is often known as an Access Point mode.
5. So the RT should have 1 maintenance IP assigned to it (best practice static). For example, I have the first 15 IP of the subnet used for static of infrastructure devices: modem, printers, switch blah-blah.
6. Turn it on. You probably want to reboot all your clients as well.

depends on if the att router ya got also has phone and stuff specifically for the tv box is the problem since aat phone is all through voip now and built into the router .

used to be able to just get your own router and set upo your log in information on the new router .

best advice I could give besides that is contact att tech department to see.
