I have an Killer E2200 Gigabit Ethernet controller from an MSI Z87 G45 Mobo on my PC and recently got an Internet speed upgrade from 20mb to 200mb

However, im only getting access to 100mb.

My ethernet cable is a good quality Cat 5e cable and my Router supports the 200mb speed i should be getting. The Controller is set to Auto Negotiate as it should, but the cap remains. Using windows auto-driver update it says i have the latest ones, though im weary of downloading anything else on my own before i get at least some opinions on what could the problem be. Any assistance would be greaty appreciated!

Read the response directly above you last post. You need to buy a different router with gigabit ports

Ok that makes sense.

But when i plugged the cable directly from the modem to the PC, i was also getting 100mb speeds. And my PC board is Gigabit connection. So, in that case is there anything i can do?

login to the modem and check the settings

I logged in to the modem , but what am i looking for?

That is strange that it does not work directly. If the networks status on your pc says it is only 100mbps then I would suspect a bad cable. If it connects at gbit and you still only get 100mbps then you need to talk to the ISP

This is what i get with a direct connection

Per the specs that has 2 ports on it. One port is Gigabit and the other is Fast which would be 100Mbps.

Well that's weird. They are not clearly label at all... but i did notice that my Pc is connected to LAN 2, while Lan 1 is going to our WIFI repeater (which is totally fine if it stays cap at 100mb so i didn't mind)

So before i start slapping cables around and maybe screwing something up, is it possible to confirm which port is which? In theory, if i put my LAN 2 cable on the LAN 1 port, if that is the gigabit connection and my cable is good, since that cable goes directly from the modem to the PC, and my PC has a Gigabit port on it... that should fix it.

However, since it's my first time messing around with that stuff, i just wanna double check each step.

Per this manual you are correct, and I would have assumed as well, that LAN1 is Gigabit while LAN2 is Fast Ethernet (100Mbps). If you swap them out then it should give you the max speed your internet is rated for and give you a 1Gbps link to the modem itself.

Done it.

Exchanged the ports, Internet speed bumped up immediately When the cabel was Modem-To-Pc

There is some fluctuation on the speed, but im putting that on the service provider more than my cable. But i ordered a Cat7 UGreen cable to test it out anyways just to be sure.
So i suppose i'll just have to exchange my router for a Gigabit one then.
