So i built my first computer last christmas and all has been well until recently where my monitor would lose the DVI connection.

Iv'e tried switching the DVI ports on my graphics card (HD 5970, which i bought OEM off newegg). it still is happening even

though i switched ports. I cannot get the screen back up once it loses the connection. The graphic card fan automatically speeds

up once it loses connection. Is it the graphics card? Im certain i have the most recent drivers for the card.

I have no idea why it is doing this. Could be the mother board, GPU, monitor, i dont know thats why i really need someones help.

Thanks

Do you have onboard graphics ? If so, test the monitor with the onboard first (remove the discrete card, the 5970). If it is still happening, your monitor (or cable) is the culprit.

If it stops happening, then your GPU is on its way out.

It is unlikely to be driver related. Try to isolate the cause first. Try the monitor with a different video card or your onboard video.
