Greetings.
I have got a gift 2x 2GB DDR2 Patriot memory modules and was wondering if I could make them work with my current system as I have 2 memory slots free for upgrading.
My current PC specs:
MB: Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H rev.2
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 64 - 5000+ @2,6Ghz
RAM: A-Data Vitesta Extreme Edition 2x 1GB DDR2 @800MHz @2.0V
placed in the DIMM_2 and DIMM_3 slots (in BIOS Wattage set to +0.200, rest should be set to AUTO iirc)
OS: Dual boot: Win XP SP3 32-bit / Win7 Home Premium 64bit
I have plugged in the new Patriot memory modules, but when I tried to boot into Win7 I got BSODs,
I removed the A-Data modules, leaving just the Patriot memory in, and tried again to boot into Win7... resulting in a freeze-up of the system when windows loads.
The weird part of the trouble that makes me confused is,...
... that when I boot into the Win XP 32bit, everything works fine 😵
That said:
I can have a single Patriot module installed - works
I can have both Patriot modules installed - works
I can even have all RAM slots occupied mix-matched with A-Data modules - works
Ofc. the OS reads only 3,25GB of RAM but still it works w/o issues, no BSODs, no Freeze-ups.
😵
I am aware that I will have to change settings in BIOS, but first of all I would like to ask if that could work or not at all in 6GB result within the Win7 64bit.
(When I am back home I will post exact module numbers, BIOS settings, and screenshots from CPU-Z).
So far, thanks for reading.

So, I have made some tests and tries and whatsnots... so far I have encountered the following:
1.
The Patriot RAM modules I got have in CPU-Z manufacturer shown Kingston 😵 ???
Is the Patriot trademark somehow connected with Kingston or I got scammed?
see picture
2.
Another thing... In the small booklet that came with the memory it is described as PC2-6400 800Mhz
while the CPU-Z shows PC-5300 (333Mhz)
see picture
3.
Also the CPU-Z shows quite different values of Timing Settings than is written in the Memory Booklet.
In BIOS I cannot even set such timings as the booklet claims. Are those booklet numbers just some sort of example or it should be specific for the RAM module that came with it?
see picture
4.
The size of the RAM modules I got are also somewhat weird... like a half-size 😵 WTF is that?
see picture
5.
Where can I find some Model Numbers for the RAMs? because there is absolutely nothing on the modules, no stickers, nor anything... hmm? So I could actually lookup on web for propper settings on them or anything...
6.
Regarding the memories working or not I have made the following steps so far:
- installed the "Patriot" mem.modules into DIMM_1 and DIMM_2 sockets (the 1st and 2nd - on my MoBo the Dual-channels are side-by side) - results:
Works fine in Windows XP SP3 32 bit
But when I boot into Windows 7 64 bit (Home Premium) the Windows freezes every time after roughly 1,5 minute (basicaly after login, it runs for a short time, until all processes are being loaded, when it ends starting up ... it freezes)
However, when I boot into Safe Mode W7 64bit, everything runs fine.
- if I place the 2 "Patriot" mem. modules into RAM sockets DIMM_3 and DIMM_4 the PC wont boot up at all
- if I place the 2 "Patriot" mem. modules into Single-Channel mode (ie. DIMM_1 slot and DIMM_3) they work same as with Dual-channel including freezing up in W7 ...etc.
- if I place the 2 "Patriot" mem. modules together with my former A-Data Vitesta Extreme Edition mem.modules together (no matter into which mem. slot - either the DIMM_1+DIMM_2 as well as DIMM_3+DIMM_4 yield same results):
Works fine in Windows XP SP3 32 bit - but ofc. loads only 3,25GB of RAM due to the bit system limitation
But when I boot into Windows 7 64 bit (Home Premium) I get BSODs during Windows Boot Up logo
see pictures
I cant remember if I tried to boot into W7 Safe Mode in that set-up
Right now I am running the PC with only the 2 new "Patriot" memory modules in DIMM_1+DIMM_2 (Dual-channel) set to 800Mhz freq. in BIOS manualy @1.8V, in Windows XP 32bit. So far no issues at all.
With timings as they can be seen in the above pictures I posted with CPU-Z
7.
What are those JEDEC #1 #2 #3 setups in CPU-Z SPD Tab?
Are those the possible / recommended timings for the RAM?
8.
Yesterday I have ran the MEMTEST for over 12,5hours... 7 passes, no errors.
(tested with the settings as seen in the CPU-Z picture and only with the DIMM_1+DIMM_2 slots occupied by the "Patriot" mem.modules, set to 800Mhz freq. in BIOS manualy @1.8V)
Uff... Thanks for any assistance ahead!
