I've spent hours trying to figure this out and just about to give up... I've built many rigs and never had so much difficulty installing drivers.
I just picked up an MSI GTX 650 Ti and trying to install NVIDIA 306.97 drivers and keep getting the message "NVIDIA Installer failed" and it lists all of the drivers (Physx, graphics, vision, etc.) with the status "Not installed." This is a clean Windows 8 install has only been running on-board graphics.

I have done the following:
- download latest driver directly from NVIDIA
- download latest driver from MSI (same driver)
- install from Windows Update
- manually update driver in Device Manager
- boot into Windows Safe Mode
- ran Driver Fusion

I'm currently in the process of reinstalling Windows on another HDD and will try installing the drivers.

Here are the rest of the system specs:
- i5 3570K
- ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
- 8 GB Samsung RAM
- Samsung 830 256 GB SSD
- OCZ ZT 750W PSU

Thanks in advance!

I had a similar problem with the gtx460 recently, try going into the device manager and updating from there. If you get an error message that goes something like: doesnt have access to the folder, the only way I could solve it was by re installing windows (tried CCLeaner, checked the registry, uninstalled #reinstalled drivers to no avail) so yeah i saved myself further trouble and just reinstalled and it worked fine.

Appreciate the help... but unfortunately I've tried and it doesn't work.
I gave up and just did another fresh install of Windows and everything appears to be working okay.

I'm posting this just so others can find it via google serarch for "NVidia installation failed".
I'm running Windows 7 x64.

I've had this issue for a couple of months now. Try to install latest driver and "FAILED". Sigh

Tonight, I needed some "System Information" (SSD partition alignment). I typed msinfo32 in the run box only to see this msg "cannot access the windows management instrumentation software."

I googled it and found this link: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...f5?msgId=ab680811-ba06-44a5-b7d1-12ce92e5b176

Method 1 solved my System Information issue. Then I'm thinking hmmm... sure enough, I can now run NVidia installer to its completion.

Maybe its a simple matter of the installer requiring the same .dll files that weren't properly registered causing msinfo32 to error as well? It's over my head but I hope some of the many that are encountering NVidia installer issues will find this useful also.

Sorry to bump this old thread but this method solved my problem, so thanks for the help Sterling65.

It also solved mine. Refreshing to see such a simple solution. This seems like a pretty common problem too. I could guess why. Thanks Tomshardware, thanks Sterling.
