help oc a p5q deluxe

hi all i have looked evrywhere and tried to oc my system but it never works for me. so i was hoping the someone with a lil time could just let me know what the best oc settings would be for the following system.


system: Windows Vista 64Bit Ultimate SP1

Bios: American Megatrends version :1406 10/02/2008

motherboard: Asus P5Q Deluxe

cpu: Core 2 Duo Processor E8400 ( 3GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB, 45nm)

ram: DDR2 Ram 4GB Kit (2x2048MHz) PC8500 1066MHz Corsair-Dominator

video card: ATI Radeon HD 4850 sonic 512MB

hd's: MAXTOR 500GB, SAMSUNG 250GB, WDC 250GB

psu: Cooler Master Extreme Power DUO 650W

ok i have done lots and lots of reading and given a couple of things a go in the bios

settings. but when i ran ORTHOS i get this

the bios setting i did use are:

CPU Ratio = 8
FSB Frequency = 500
FSB to North Bridge = Auto
DRAM Frequency = 1002

CPU Voltage = 1.29375
CPU PLL = Auto
FSB Term = Auto
DRAM Voltage = 2.1
NB Voltage = Auto

Load Line Cal. = Enabled
CPU Spread Spectrum = Disabled
PCI-E Spread Spectrum = Disabled

what really got me was that in bios setting in system info it said CPU was at 3.60MHz but in ORTHOS it said 4.00MHz

the other thing i wanted to know was i have 2 spare 1GB 667MHz sticks of ram now would i be best just to leave them out or would i get more out of my MO by using them even throu my main 2 sticks of ram are 2x2GB 1066MHz

I'd try upping the voltage of your CPU bit by bit. I'm not sure if you have an E0 stepping e8400 or not but my e8500 needs 1.3v (1.32v in bios) to run stable at 4.0 GHz so 1.29375 seems a bit on the low side.. You could also try upping your multiplier and lowering your FSB, your MB might not be able to run that high of an FSB. Also try upping the memory voltage by one or two notches, I first had stabability issues with my computer because my RAM needed 2.14v instead of the 2.1v the manufacturer listed.

Regarding adding the other memory sticks, that wont work, your MB has the voltage set to 2.1v whereas 667 MHz memory needs nowhere near 2.1v, you'd basicly fry your memory sooner or later.

ya ok cool cool but i didn't really want to run it at 4.00 GHz as i have read thats its more stable at 3.60 GHz. i dont get y in the bios system info it say is running at 3.60 but in windows i get 4.00 GHz

Some programs, like Orthos, doesn't realize that you have "down-clocked" your multiplier. It will use the native multiplier. Use the latest CPU-Z to check in Windows.

Here's a link to my overlcock screenshots. It's for a E8500 so make adjustments that suit your E8400. I would suggest just setting...Multiplier, FSB, CPU Voltage, Memory Voltage, Memory Freq, Memory Timing and leave everything the same. Hopefully this will work for you too.
