i'v been thinking of getting a new system. i' currently got a 2.4Ghz P4 (533fsb) 512mb ram and geforce 4 440mx. iv had this system for 18months or so.

i want a new system because its a little slugish on games! i don't know wether to get a new grafix card now (9800pro), or just to wait for the 775 and 64-bit P4's . please can anyone advise me what a should do? thanq

My friend has a Athlon 64 3200+ with a 9800 Pro. It runs all the games very nicely at good resolutions. This setup it probably the best bang for your buck. Although, you may want to wait until the prices drop a little for the socket 939. Therefore, you can upgrade later down the road. It all depends how much you want to spend.

Right now, your best bet would be a new graphics card, say a 9800 Pro.

I know everyone here will say go 64 bit, but there a couple issues to consider with 64 bit.

1) Its new. There are currently no games/software/OS that support 64 bit (except for some linux distros). You will not see any great performance enhancements until you see 64 bit software.

2) Price. Right now, for you to get a fully dunctioning 64 bit system, your looking at $1000 plus for mobo/CPU/memory/PSU/Case?Etc.

Give it six months to a year, 64 bit will be cheaper, and the software support will be there. Then upgrade to a 64 bit system, you will se big performace differences.

Also, I would recommend getting another 512MB of RAm, that will make a big difference.

Spec:
Intel P4 2.4B
MSI 645E Max-U Mobo
1GB DDR333
R9600XT 128MB
SB Live 5.1
WD 60GB
Maxtor 120GB
LG DVD+-R/RW
WIN2K PRO SP4

Get a new videocard, it will make all the difference in the world over that crappy 440mx. The rest of your system should still be fast enough for todays games.
