I've recently been experiencing trouble while turning on my computer. A couple of months ago I started to notice that it takes more than one try to turn on my computer, usually 2 or 3. I would click the power button, the power LED would light up, CPU fan would spin, and I would hear the hard drive click, but no beep or anything displayed on the monitor. I could leave the computer on for an hour and come back to see nothing still on the monitor. I didn't pay much attention to it until lately it is increasingly harder to turn on the computer, today it took me 30+ tries... I fear the next time I might not even be able to turn it on anymore.

Did anyone have this kind of weird situation?

My system came with a cheap 450W PSU that came with the tower.

CPU: Pentium D 940 @ 3.2GHz.

Motherboard: XFX nForce 630i/7109 model

RAM: 2GB PC6400 @ 800MHz

Graphics: Integrated graphics, nVidia 7150 chipset.

I am suspecting myself that it is the power supply's problem since I sometimes hear a fan-up, click, fan-down, fan-up sequence when it fails to power up completely. The LED screen that is displaying the system temperature is also slightly flashing.

Once the computer is turned on, however, I never had trouble using it until I turn it off again. The computer doesn't randomly shut down on me or anything like that.

Thanks for your help D:

It's weird because today sometimes I had to try 30 times to get it up and running, and sometimes just one click will turn it on. Something is definitely going whacky... May I get more opinions from more people?

Bob, Having the same problem with mine. Except that I haven't been able to bring it up, but again haven't tried 30 times. I was thinking power supply as well, but I have a spare and tried it and not making a difference. So it is either the mobo or the chip. Since it is not passing the POST, it's not you HDD, so at least the data is not lost!!! I will try like you to bring it up, but now that I know it's not the power supply, I will test further...

This could also be a dying power switch. I would try starting the computer by shorting the two pins that the power switch connects to with a screwdriver or something similar. That should at least rule out a faulty switch.

Either way, you should replace that POS PSU before it damages any other components.
