help on overclocking amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 4600+ 2.40 Ghz

hello i want to know if i can overclock my processor at like (2.8-3.1) but im doing it because im build my self a computer but with the same processor here is stuff im getting:

It depends on which revision and which socket you have. Download CPU-Z and make sure your cpu socket is AM2 and not 939. If you have a 90nm cpu, you could probably get it up to 2.7 or 2.8. If you have a 65nm one, you could probably kick it to 3.0 or 3.2.

I would actually look up an Asus m4a785-m on ebay, it should be the same price as the Asrock, and is much more stable and better for OC'ing.

okay i have am2 and its 90nm cpu so i could make it 2.8

yes, remember to download a stress test program and a temperature monitor, increase the fsb +1, reboot, and stress test it for at least 30 minutes. Temps shouldn't go over 55C. If it gets instable you can bump down the ram speed, and try to keep the "HT" speed close to default(probably 800mhz) as possible.

A good stress tester is Prime95, and a good temp monitor is Speedfan, although a lot of people use HWmon.
