So, my father brought home a PC for me to mess around with today, and it's in my best interest to get it working so my parents can have a desktop of their own, except when it comes to beep codes, I'm stumped. The PC came without a hard drive, nor RAM, yet I managed to power everything else, the CPU and the motherboard, meaning there are no (noticeable) faults there. When I power it on, I get one long, continuous beep. I assumed that it was because of RAM, and I was about to order one stick of DDR2, and a hard drive, but I don't know if it was because I plugged everything in wrong? or it's actually because of one of the other components? Can someone find me an online manual anywhere? Because I can't find one for the life of me, thank you!

I would try turning the computer back on and seeing if there are any other short beeps, it could be another issue if you turned it off after the first long beep. Other than that, maybe ask a local computer shop or recycling center if you can buy and return some DDR2 RAM if it does not work.
Here is the manual, http://download.gigabyte.ru/manual/motherboard_manual_ga-eg31m-s2_e.pdf. Look at pg 79 of the pdf and it will show you what the error codes are.

There does not seem to be a matching error for just 1 long beep. The RAM\motherboard error code is 1 long and 1 short.

Interesting... Say it was a motherboard error, and I didn't leave the beep long enough, I'd have to invest in a new motherboard, wouldn't I?
