Hi All,

Downloaded an anti-virus program (Symantec Norton System Works 2005),
found I did not like it then uninstalled the program. Now each time I
open any program I get a box titles "Run As" with the following
message: "Which user account do you want to use" It has two radio
button choices, one is me (current user) and my log on name and the
other would be if I wanted to select another user. It also has a box to
select saying "protect my computer from unauthorized program activity".
I have to respond to this box before opening any program and I cannot
find a way to stop it from appearing. How do I get rid if this? Please
help !! Thanks.

Those incompetent bungling nincompoops at Norton/Symantec can't even
figure out how to make their cruddy products uninstall correctly. You
need a special program to do this.

Good luck

We uninstalled Norton AV 2002, 2003, 2005 and NIS (several versions) on
Sunday from clients computers (they had expired subscriptions and didn't
want to pay to renew them) and didn't have any issues caused by the
uninstall of them. We enabled Windows XP SP2 Firewall and installed AVG
Personal for them.

I've had problems in the past also, but there also seem to be times when
it uninstalls properly.

I've lost track of how many times I've had to use RNAV2003 to clean up
a client's machine, and I've used the equivalent utlity for Norton
2005 a number of times as well.

I was not suggesting that there are no problems, but I've been using NAV
and then Symantec (never the suites, just the AV product) since they
came out and have never experienced the dreaded uninstall problem, no
any problems upgrading to a new version. We've got about 1500 nodes with
NAV or Symantec AV on it right now, upgraded from prior versions, and
have not had that problem - I just thought it was worth mentioning that
it does work for some solutions.

Can you name any other major software company that has to provide
supplementary uninstallers because their regular ones fail to do the
job properly?
