I don't think you can use XP to make the installation media. So, on another PC, download the
Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB
change boot order so USB is first, hdd second
boot from installer
on screen after languages, choose repair this pc, not install.
choose troubleshoot
choose advanced
choose start up repair - this will scan PC and maybe fix this - will ask for logon info
if that doesn't help, try system restore
boot from installer, on 2nd screen after languages, choose repair this pc, not install
choose troubleshoot
choose advanced
choose system restore
hopefully there is a recent date to choose from - if there is, system will roll back to that date and perhaps fix this
if there is no data, on your XP machine, try this and see if you can copy info off laptop: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/
once you copy anything off laptop you want to keep, I would try a reset
boot from installer again
instead of going into troubleshoot, reset this pc should be in the top menu area.
two choices, save files and settingsa, or wipe windows and start again - I would keep files/settings
either way, win 10 will restart and reinstall itself. You will need to reinstall all programs
