HELP I just recently purchased a combo pack with a AMD Sempron 145 Sargas 2.8GHz Socket AM3 45W and a BIOSTAR A960D+ AM3+ AMD 760G + SB710 running Team Elite Plus 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333. Now i understand that this processor is not going to give me great gaming results when overclocked but thats not what im looking for all i need is to squeeze a little more speed or possibly unlock the second core so that i can watch HD movies and transfer files and listen to sirius xm online without it lagging. Can anyone please help?

Solution
On a locked CPU going to FSB overclocking might work. But your board needs to be able to support manual multiplier and voltage adjustments for CPU-NB, FSB, HT and RAM. You also need to make sure your board will support 65w and 95w CPUs. Since you are starting at 45w you probably have some room, but check the manufacturer supported CPU list first.

well for those of you that have a BIOSTAR A960D+ AM3+ AMD 760G + SB710 the chipset in mine that i bought from newegg two weeks ago has a 780G chipset so i downloaded the AMD Overdive application to overclock and i turned it up to 3ghz i ran it for an hr with OCCT.exe and it never got hotter than 43C I have yet to run Prime95 on that setting to see if the ram is stable I will post more after i have ran Prime95.

I have my AMD Sempron 145 2.8 overclocked to 3.5ghz and set the HT link to 2ghz so that my ram would still run at 667mhz. I have been stress testing with Occt and Prime95 for about 2hrs so far so good. I will post the results later today after running Prime95 for about another 6 hrs. also i only used the AMD Overdrive app to test how far i could push it before i got instability I found that i could not go past 3.1ghz with out turning the memory down once i figured how to set the HT link speed in the bios i could go past the 3.2 mark and i set the clock at 250mhz.

well after testing for 8 hrs no errors on prime95 max temp 45C idle 35C @ 3.5 clocked @ 250mhz HT link set @ 2ghz because of RAM underclocked @ 1066 and currently running @ 666.7mhz NB @ 2500mhz no instability so far cooled with stock cpu aircooler and two 120mm fans one inlet and two exhaust fans. AMD Sempron 145 @ 2.5 stock running on a Biostar 960D+ MOBO with 780G chip set . So I say go for it but be cautious.
