Help! PC won't install Windows!

Hi,

I have a bit of a problem. It's my first time building a rig and I'm trying to install Windows XP. The problem is, I can't seem to make it work.

I can access the bios and everything and can reach the windows set-up page (color blue). I can also see the texts at the bottom (Press F2 to run Automated System recovery) but when the texts at the bottom reaches "set-up is starting windows" after about 5 seconds, it automatically shuts off! I tried installing it again but all i got was the same result.

Another thing, the temperature of my CPU is boiling hot (at around 93C according to the bios) I didn't change any settings i.e. Overclock, and left everything at default. Could this be the cause of the automatic shut off? If so, what could I do to make it cooler? after market cooler?


My computer is as follows:

CPU: E8400 3.0Ghz

Mother Board: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P

Ram: Corsair Dominator: 2x1GB

HDD: 1 GB Caviar Black

GPU: XFX 1GB 4850

Cooler: CPU Stock cooler

PSU: Corsair TX750 (750w)

I'm getting desperate here, I spent two days building this computer only to find that it can't install Windows.

I'd really appreciate any feed back guys.

do you know any tutorials that could help me remove the heat sink? What I've searched in the internet is that when removing i should go with the arrow and installing i should go opposite of the arrow. To be honest, I don't understand what the heck they're talking about! Sorry if I'm a complete n00b on this subject.

I already removed the heat sink from the CPU. But then I noticed that there was already some thermal paste on the CPU (The Heat Sink already came with pre-distributed thermal paste so I didn't put any more.) Doesn't that mean that I installed it correctly the first time?

no, if it wasnt firmly seated against the CPU it would have spread its TIM when you first push it down but if the push pins werent holding it down firmly there was an air gap and not allowing for good heat transfer. The arrows on the push pins tell you which way to turn them to remove it, go the otherway to install it, so push down and turn but you need to be sure each pin is securely locked in place.

The easier thing would probably be for you to get an after market cooler with a backing plate so you dont have to deal with the crazy pushpins.

After installing the stock cooler again, it lowered the temp to 50 stock but raises up to middle 60s when transferring and installing. So thanks for everyone who replied!

But is that the normal temperature for a non-OCing e8400? Would an after market cooler really make THAT big of a difference? Because my brother has the exact same chip as mine and he OCed his to 3.6 and his temp is playing in 40 and going to 50 on load. He's using an after market cooler though.
