I want to be able to play WoW with every setting maxed out (graphical and optional) at 1440p and never get below 120fps, even in a raid.

Since WoW is CPU heavy, I assume i9 is the CPU that I will want. However, is a 12th Gen i9 and 3080 TI better than a 13th Gen i9 and 4070?

Will a 3080 TI or 4070 get me no less than 120FPS at 1440p, or do I need a 4080?

Thanks for your inputs.

i9 or a Ryzen 9, though the e-cores don't really help WoW all that much.

Interesting question on the GPUs. Really need to compare laptops and not GPUs though, as cooling and power requirements can vary a lot. They give a wide operating range and it is up to the laptop builder to decide on the heatsink and power profile.

Mobile 4080 and mobile 3080 Ti have the same core count. But the 40 series has about a 50% clock speed advantage. So you get more done with fewer cores.

Mobile 4070 is an 8GB GPU
Mobile 4080 is a 12GB GPU (Between the desktop 4070 and 4070 Ti)
Mobile 3080Ti is a 16GB GPU
Mobile 4090 is basically a desktop 4080 and is a closer match to the 3080Ti in terms of bandwidth.

20 man raid, every possible setting on max, 1440p never dropping below 120 FPS on a laptop my answer stands.

Not sure why 120fps is even needed for WoW - also are you playing classic or retail? As there will be a huge difference in the long run. My low end laptop plays classic era at 65fps roughly on the setting "7" and for those who don't know it goes 1 thru 10. Retail plays it at around 60fps on 3-4, depending on liquid/shadow detail. Don't have the gpu off hand as I'm not on it - on my chromebook but its basically a crap gpu.

Been a long time since I played WoW, but never had significant FPS issues with a decent CPU and GPU combo.

i7-950, i7-4770k, i7-7700k
GTX580, GTX980, GTX1080
Cataclysm -> Draenor if I remember right.

I don't think you would be disappointed with any high end CPU and either of the GPUs

I currently have a 10th Gen i9 + RTX 2080 Super Max-Q. It is decent, but I FPS gets below 120 in cities. RAIDs require settings to be lowered.

Retail. Haven't played Dragonflight yet

A lot depends on the cooling, but Ryzen has their Zen 4 based laptops on the market or soon to be. Not entirely sure how they stack up, but 16 full cores vs the 8P-16E on Intel, so same thread count.

Dell has a few, but not with super high end GPUs.

Lenovo doesn't yet.

MSI only has the ultrabook ones.

Going to have to shop around it seems.

I think its cool people want to try out WoW retail, but be warned its very very different now days and not for the better. Classic era is "decent" I hear tho...getting official hardcore servere soon and a new season. Just figured I'd tell ya. Enjoy w/e route you go! =)

Looks like Dell Alienware and ASUS ROG have Ryzen 9 7945HX and RTX 4070/4080.

Do either of those have a superior cooling design? Looks like both inhale from the base and exhale out the sides and back.
