Hey guys,

I hope I'm posting in the right section.

I'm putting together a new machine for work and gaming, but I'm stuck on what RAM to get. So far for the system I have an Asus Blitz Formula motherboard, 8800GTX, Q6600. I'm aiming for a total of 4GB. I was hoping to be able to get all the RAM for under £150, as I'm already pushing my budget.

Is there a big difference of performance between DDR2 PC2-8500 1066 and DDR2 PC2-6400 800 RAM? The 8500 costs £240 and the 6400 £140 for 4GB. I could buy 2GB now and then upgrade further down the line when I have more funds available, but unless there is a noticeable difference, I'd rather go for the cheaper option.

I've been looking at Crucial Memory as I have used them before and never had problems, but is there another company I should be considering?

And one more thing, is it better to get 4x1GB or 2x2GB for performance? I won't be wanting more RAM in this machine, so I'm not worried about filling the memory slots.

Thanks in advance guys :)

Dave

Use the Qualified vendor list on ASUS's website for your specific mobo and ram frequency.

I find the COrsair xms2 twin2x 6400C4 800MHZ DDR2 2GB kit is on all of them.

Good luck and enjoy the british pound...lucky.
