So I just built a new PC gaming rig, and I only have a macbook retina and a USB stick. And I did not build a dvd drive into my computer. And I have a windows 8.1 ISO.

How do I create a bootable USB with Windows 8.1 for PC on a Mac? To my knowledge Boot Camp only works for windows on mac and macs don't run software like Rufus or Windows DVD/USB Boot downloader (or whatever it is called). Does Unetbootin work? I tried that with windows 7 and i only got a black screen with a blinking cursor.

Thank you.

Try the Mac version of UNetbootin.
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
It's primarily designed for downloading Linux distros and creating bootable USB media, however you have the option to select the Diskimage radio button and then create a bootable USB from any ISO.

Yeah I tried that with both Windows 7 and 8.1, and I selected boot from USB, and just got a black screen with a blinking cursor. So I borrowed a friends portable DVD burner and used a windows 7 dvd instead.

I wouldn't of minded having 8.1 but oh well- no difference for gaming. Maybe Ill try again now that I have it working and can use windows usb burner. Thanks though.
