Hi Guys,

I have a Dell PowerEdge R610 and I have for the data drives a RAID 5 consisting of 4x300 GB SAS drives of 10krpm.

I need to upgrade these to 600 GB 10krpm. Now the drives on the Dell website are much more expensive then those compatible seagate drives seen on amazon, is there are difference? are the ones on amazon advertised as 100% compatible less reliable? will they work in my server?

the drives I am talking about are as follows:
Dell: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=342-0851&mfgpid=202469
Compatible: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Compatible-600GB-0XXR60-Comes/dp/B009WU2M3C/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1390409170&sr=1-2&keywords=dell+r610+XXR60

Your help is highly appreciated.

well mabey i would go with the one you showed becuase it seems like the dell might use custom firmware so it may not be compitble but you could buy it and return it if it doesent work. also whitecat its in a raid so doing it with that ssd could cause probelsm isnce it is dfrent and ingnoring the fact it is a difrent capacity

I thought about these kind of SSDs, but then I will connect them as SATA on the same controller of course, so will not benefit from SAS commands, and moreover, i think the controller is SATA 2, so as well wont benefit from the full SSD speeds (IO will be good though). and theoretically the SAS drive is more eneterprise "labeled". the SSD is more home/workstation use "labeled". I think it would work fine, but I am not sure if it will be compatible. the 10k.6 is almost twice as fast in transfer speeds then the 10k.3. but am not sure if I will have compatibility issues.

yes i know I cant raid them with different drives. If I need to RAID them, I need to change all the disks in the RAID. But I dont know if I need to change all the disks attached to the controller
